Officially closing the cable-stayed bridge "made in Vietnam"

After a period of efforts to speed up construction progress, My Thuan 2 Bridge officially closed and will be completed by the end of 2023.

My Thuan 2 Bridge is a component project of the North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2017-2020 period approved by the Ministry of Transport . This is a national key project, a special-grade road traffic project. The total investment of the project is more than VND 5,003 billion from the state budget.

My Thuan 2 Bridge is located on the highway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City, connecting the two expressways Trung Luong - My Thuan and My Thuan - Can Tho, connecting the two provinces of Tien Giang and Vinh Long. This is a vital road, with the largest traffic volume of the main national highways in the region. The main span with a cable-stayed structure has a span of 350 m, a clearance of 37.5 m, a bridge width of 28 m (including 6 lanes); for the first time, it was completely implemented by a team of Vietnamese engineers and workers from the project planning, design to construction.

The project was started on March 16, 2020 and will be put into operation at the end of 2023. The project was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic, high fuel prices and increased material prices have affected the construction and implementation. On the other hand, many objective technical difficulties in the construction of complex items of the main bridge; weather conditions significantly affected the construction techniques of the girder and cable-stayed systems.

However, with the strong and regular attention and direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the support and close coordination of central and local ministries and branches, as well as the efforts of the investor, consultants and contractors, My Thuan 2 Bridge has met all the conditions for closing. The project ensures the geometric parameters of the main cable-stayed span, construction quality requirements, labor safety, etc.

After the closing, the Ministry of Transport continues to direct Project Management Board 7, consultants and contractors to promote the highest sense of responsibility; focus on completing the remaining items to open the project to traffic by the end of 2023.
