Suddenly seeing an injured wild animal on the roadside, a Hue man brought it to the forest ranger.

Discovering a Java pangolin - a rare wild animal - injured on the roadside, a man in Hue captured it and handed it over to the forest rangers.

On February 6, Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department (Hue City) handed over a rare wild animal to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms - Cuc Phuong National Park for rescue, care and release into the natural environment.

The rare wild animal handed over was a Java pangolin weighing 4kg, with a slight injury to its leg.

This Java pangolin was received by the Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department from a local resident who voluntarily surrendered it. The person who voluntarily surrendered it was Mr. Nguyen Van Quy (residing in Mui Ne residential group, Phu Loc town, Phu Loc district).

Previously, while passing through the Tuan bridge area in Long Ho ward (Phu Xuan district, Hue city), Mr. Quy discovered an injured Java pangolin on the side of the road.

Knowing this was a rare wild animal, Mr. Quy captured it and contacted the authorities to release it back into the wild.

Java pangolin (manis javanica) is classified in group IB in the List of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals under Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP and is included in the List of endangered, precious and rare species prioritized for protection issued with Decree No. 64/2019/ND-CP of the Government .

The Java pangolin is also listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List as "globally endangered."
