According to Mr. Le Viet Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Administration, Ministry of Health , recently, the COVID-19 epidemic has shown signs of increasing again in some provinces and cities and still has potential for complicated developments.
To promptly respond and ensure drug supply for disease prevention and control, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests pharmaceutical production and trading units to increase the supply of drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients.
At the same time, proactively contact medical examination and treatment facilities to grasp the needs, develop plans for drug production and trading to ensure timely supply of COVID-19 treatment drugs and essential drugs for COVID-19 patients, especially focusing on symptomatic treatment drugs, respiratory support drugs, emergency resuscitation drugs, etc.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests units to ensure continuous supply, avoiding local drug shortages or supply interruptions.
In case of scarce drug supply, the Drug Administration will prioritize the quick resolution of the issuance of circulation registration certificates and import licenses to promptly supply drugs to medical examination and treatment facilities upon request from the units.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam notes that for any difficulties or problems, units should contact the Drug Administration of Vietnam for guidance.
At the regular Government meeting in May 2025 held on June 4, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that currently, epidemics in our country are still basically under control, including COVID-19.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet issued any recommendations regarding current COVID-19 cases. Therefore, the Minister advised people not to panic or worry.
Recall of substandard eye and ear drops
Regarding the recall of substandard drugs, Dr. Ta Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Administration, Ministry of Health, has just requested a nationwide recall of Ofleye Drops (Ofloxacin 0.3%) eye and ear drops produced by Medipharco Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company because they do not meet quality standards.
Previously, the Drug Administration Department received a document from this Company requesting a voluntary recall of the eye and ear drops Ofleye Drops (Ofloxacin 0.3%), registration number: 893115586524 (old registration number: VD-32740-19), batch number: 011024; production date: October 25, 2024; expiry date: October 24, 2027 due to the fact that a sample of a batch of the product did not meet sensory standards.
Immediately after that, the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing had test results showing that this drug did not meet quality standards in terms of properties and clarity.
The drug sample was taken by the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing at Tri Viet Investment Consulting and Trading Company Limited (counter 221, Hapu Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Distribution Center, Building 24T1, No. 1 Nguyen Huy Tuong, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi).
Thus, the batch of Ofleye Drops eye and ear drops (Ofloxacin 0.3%), registration number: 893115586524 (old registration number: VD-32740-19), batch number: 011024; manufacturing date: October 25, 2024; expiry date: October 24, 2027 mentioned above is determined to be a level 3 violation.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam announced a nationwide recall of this batch of solution medicine produced by Medipharco Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.
The Drug Administration requires Medipharco Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company to coordinate with drug distributors within 2 days (June 4 and 5) to send recall notices to wholesalers, retailers, and users of the above drug solution, and send recall reports to the Drug Administration within 33 days.
The Ministry of Health also requested the Department of Health of provinces and cities under the Central Government, and the Health Departments of all sectors to notify drug trading and using establishments to recall the above substandard batch of drugs; handle violators according to current regulations; and report to the Drug Administration of Vietnam and relevant authorities.
For the Hue City Department of Health, the Ministry of Health requested to inspect and supervise Medipharco Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company to recall and handle recalled drugs according to regulations.
