Proactively prevent outbreaks of black-striped dwarf disease in winter-spring rice

From July 31 to August 3, the weather was continuously rainy; according to forecasts, it is likely that the rain will continue for the next few days, creating favorable conditions for the fourth generation of white-backed planthoppers to bloom; the density of planthoppers is high at 400-500 individuals/ ^m2 , locally over 1,000 individuals/ ^m2 concentrated in the southern districts of the province; the density of planthoppers is higher than the same period last year, so there is a very high risk of an outbreak of black-striped dwarf disease in the 2023 crop. The fifth generation of small leaf rollers has a common density of 3-7 individuals/ ^m2 , high at 15-20 individuals/m2, locally 40-50 individuals/ ^m2 , the source of pests is 4-5 times higher than the same period last year; high density of pests is locally distributed in the early-flowering rice area. In addition, adult 2-spotted stem borers appear sporadically, in some places about 0.2-0.3 individuals/ ^m2 , egg density in some places is 0.2-0.3 nests/ ^m2 , in some places 1-2 nests/ ^m2 , concentrated in areas with dead rice, abandoned fields; some places with high sources such as Trung Dong, Truc Tuan, Liem Hai communes (Truc Ninh), the density is much higher than the average of many years.

Proactively avoiding the rain, people in Dai Thang commune (Vu Ban) sprayed pesticides to kill white-backed planthoppers, preventing the risk of black-striped dwarf disease that harms winter-spring rice.

To proactively minimize the risk of black-striped dwarf disease and other rice pests in the 2023 crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that districts and cities assign specialized staff to closely coordinate with communes and towns to propagate and urge farmers to increase field inspections and weather avoidance to promptly spray pesticides to prevent and control pests. Urgently spray pesticides to control the 4th generation of planthoppers in combination with the 5th generation of small leaf rollers from now until August 7 according to the instructions of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Monitor and spray 2-spotted stem borers in areas with egg density of over 0.3 nests/ ^m2 with pesticides containing the active ingredients Chlorantraniliprole and Chlofenapyr./.
