Prolonged heat, water levels in lakes drop sharply |
According to the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, May - July 2025 are the main months of heat. Each month, there are 3 - 4 long heat waves. However, in reality, previously, on March 5, 15, 27 and 28, in the plains and mountainous areas of Phu Loc district, there were local heat waves above 35 degrees Celsius. In the first 15 days of April 2025, in Hue City, there continued to be a long heat wave with the highest temperature from 35 - 37 degrees Celsius.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Director of the Hue City Hydrometeorological Center: “Prolonged heat is often accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. From May to July 2025 are the transitional months and the main months of summer, so the number of days with thunderstorms and lightning is high, an average of 15-25 days/month, especially in mountainous areas. Heat with high temperature and low humidity is very dangerous for health, especially for the elderly, children, people with underlying diseases and weak health”.
Due to the impact of hot weather combined with low humidity in the air, the risk of explosions, fires in residential areas, and the risk of forest fires is very high. Recently, a fire occurred in the area in front of An Lo market, Phong Dien town, causing great damage to the property of small traders. This is also a warning for authorities, units, localities and people to pay more attention to fire prevention.
According to the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, although not as complicated as last year, this year's weather has unusual and unpredictable developments. Not only is it hot, but it is also accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. During hot days, thunderstorms often occur in the afternoon and evening along with dangerous weather phenomena. Therefore, people need to proactively prevent thunderstorms when working outdoors, avoiding damage caused by unusual weather.
In addition, to ensure health, the Hue City Hydro-Meteorological Station also noted that people should limit their movement or outdoor work during peak hours on hot days. Localities should proactively prevent the risk of forest fires and explosions in residential areas and markets due to increased electricity demand; proactively dredge silted canals and reservoirs to restore and increase water storage capacity.
“Heat and drought are not only weather phenomena but have become an increasingly common type of natural disaster. Therefore, proactive prevention and response must be implemented early, synchronously and effectively by localities and people. Regularly monitoring weather forecasts to adjust agricultural production and daily activities is the most effective solution in preventing and responding to extreme and unusual weather like today,” Mr. Nguyen Van Hung shared.
Hue City Hydrometeorological Station forecasts: From August 2025, heat waves will still appear widely with 2-3 heat waves, severe heat waves. In September, the number of heat waves will gradually decrease to 1-2 and will not last for many consecutive days. In October, there will be no heat waves. The 2025 heat wave season is likely to end earlier, expected before September 15. |
