Propaganda and training on fire prevention and fighting for tenants

At the boarding house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thuong (Phuoc Long A ward, Thu Duc city), Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cang - a tenant - took the opportunity to clean up and check the fire extinguisher. He said that he has lived here for 2 years and every year the fire police and local authorities have been propagandized and trained in fire fighting and escape skills, thanks to which he feels secure when living in the boarding house.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Thuong, the owner of the boarding house, said that when building boarding houses, they all followed fire prevention regulations. For example, power lines or emergency exits in case of an incident were all made according to the advice of the fire prevention team. A boarding house will have two emergency exits at the beginning and end. Every 5 boarding houses are equipped with a fire extinguisher and given to the house at the beginning of the row to keep and preserve.

Every 3-6 months, the fire police and ward officials come to propagate the law in general, fire prevention regulations and train fire prevention and escape skills for the tenants. During those training sessions, situations such as how to handle a gas fire and how to put out an electrical fire are presented.

According to Ms. Thuong, in this boarding house area, there are two groups. The student group coordinates with the ward's Youth Union, the worker group coordinates with the trade union system to propagate and implement fire prevention and fighting.

“Thanks to the coordination and support of local authorities and functional forces through propaganda and fire prevention and fighting practices, most of the tenants have learned about fire prevention and fighting regulations, fire fighting skills and escape in case of an incident. In the near future, the ward police will coordinate with the family's boarding house to build a pilot project on fire prevention and fighting safety in the boarding house area,” said Ms. Thuong.

Mr. Ly Nguyen Minh Phuc - Member of the Standing Committee of the Thu Duc City Labor Federation - informed that Thu Duc City is a locality with many migrant workers and those staying in people's boarding houses.

Therefore, Thu Duc City Labor Federation also pays great attention to training on general legal regulations and fire prevention and fighting regulations for workers. On average, each year, Thu Duc City Labor Federation coordinates with the police and relevant agencies to disseminate general legal regulations, including fire prevention and fighting safety regulations, 15-20 times for about 2,000-3,000 workers staying at rented houses.

Landlords interested in investing in fire prevention and fighting equipment

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam - a landlord in Thanh Loc ward, district 12, Ho Chi Minh City - shared that his house has 160 rooms with about 400 people regularly staying there.

Therefore, the issue of fire safety and fire fighting is always of concern to both the government and his family. Each row of about 20 rooms is equipped with a 4kg fire extinguisher, an 8kg extinguisher and a 32kg extinguisher, and equipped with tools to break down the door when necessary such as pliers and sledgehammers. Fire safety inspections are conducted periodically and suddenly by the authorities at the request of the district.

In his boarding house, there is a core team of 10 people who have lived there for many years. Every year, they are trained by the district authorities on legal regulations as well as practicing fire prevention and fighting skills.

According to Mr. Tran Tien Cang, manager of a boarding house in Phu Nhuan district, the landlord asked him to fully equip the boarding house with fire prevention equipment such as gas masks, rope ladders, fire prevention regulations, mini fire extinguishers, and fire alarms to be equipped according to regulations.

This initiative brings great confidence to tenants. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ty, a tenant here, said: “Since the landlord has equipped all rooms with fire protection equipment, I feel very secure. Not only where I live, but also the surrounding buildings are more aware of ensuring fire safety.”
