President Luong Cuong is about to have his first foreign trip.

At the invitation of Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font and Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, President Luong Cuong will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay an official visit to Chile from November 9-12; an official visit to Peru and attend the 2024 Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Week in Lima from November 12-16.

This isPresident Luong Cuong's first foreign trip as head of state of Vietnam.

Regarding Vietnam-Chile relations , the two countries established a comprehensive partnership in May 2007. In recent years, the two sides have also exchanged many visits at all levels.

Two-way trade relations from 534 million USD in 2013 (before the FTA took effect) to 2.15 billion USD in 2022, reaching 1.57 billion USD in 2023. The first 9 months of 2024 reached nearly 1.3 billion USD.

Chile is currently Vietnam's fourth largest export market to Latin America, while Vietnam is Chile's largest trading partner in ASEAN.

The two countries maintain good coordination and cooperation at international organizations and multilateral forums…

Regarding Vietnam-Peru relations , the two countries established diplomatic relations on November 14, 1994, and exchanges of high-ranking leaders between the two countries take place regularly.

Bilateral exchanges have developed strongly. In 5 years, two-way trade turnover has increased by 79.1% from 353.78 million USD (2016) to 600 million USD (2022); 486 million USD in 2023; 289.6 million USD in the first 9 months of 2024.

Regarding investment, Vietnam currently has two important investment projects in Peru in the fields of telecommunications (Military Telecommunications Group/Viettel) and oil and gas (Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group/PVN) with a capital of more than 1 billion USD.

The two countries maintain coordination and mutual support at the United Nations and multilateral forums.

Regarding the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, after more than 30 years of establishment and development, APEC continues to affirm itself as the leading regional economic linkage mechanism, initiating and taking the lead in promoting the trend of economic, trade and investment liberalization in the region and the world.

There are currently 21 member economies, including the world's leading economies (US, China, Japan, etc.), 9 members of the Group of 20 major economies (G20) and many dynamically developing emerging economies, representing about 38% of the world's population, contributing 61% of GDP and 47% of global trade.

During 26 years of participating in APEC, Vietnam has actively and proactively contributed to promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and regional economic connectivity, maintaining APEC's role as the leading economic connectivity mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam is one of the most active members in proposing APEC initiatives and projects.

At APEC 2023, Vietnam proposed to host APEC 2027 and received strong support from member economies. The proposal was unanimously approved and included in the Joint Statement of the conference.
