National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man begins official visit to Cambodia

According to the special correspondent of VNA, at exactly 2:30 p.m. on November 21, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man led a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Party and State to the capital Phnom Penh, starting an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, attending the 12th Plenary Session of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) from November 21 to 24.

Welcoming the National Assembly Chairman and the Vietnamese delegation at Pochentong International Airport in the capital Phnom Penh were: Second Vice President of the Cambodian National Assembly Vong Soth; Vice Chairman of Committee 5 of the Cambodian National Assembly Nim Chantara; Secretary of Committee 6 of the Cambodian National Assembly , member of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Group Keo Pisth. Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, Embassy officials and representatives of agencies and the Vietnamese community in Cambodia warmly welcomed the delegation.

Over the years, the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has continued to be maintained and developed. Party channel cooperation plays a guiding role in the relationship between the two countries. Defense and security cooperation continues to play a core role, serving as a foundation to promote other areas of cooperation. Economic, trade and investment cooperation is a bright spot, especially with bilateral trade turnover growing at a high rate...

In the overall bilateral relationship, the relationship between the two legislative bodies has developed well on both bilateral and multilateral levels. In November 2022, the two countries' National Assemblies signed a Cooperation Agreement, creating new momentum and legal basis for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies in a sustainable and in-depth manner.

It is expected that during the visit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will pay a courtesy call to King Norodom Sihamoni; hold talks with National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary; pay a courtesy call to President of the Cambodian People's Party and President of the Senate Hun Sen; meet with Prime Minister Hun Manet; visit former National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin; receive President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Group Men Sam An; attend the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodian National Assembly Administrative Building - a gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and a number of other activities.

This is the first official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man as the head of the Vietnamese legislative body. The visit is of great significance, affirming the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, which gives high priority to the relationship of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" with Cambodia, demonstrating the trust and closeness between the two countries' senior leaders as well as between the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Cambodian senior leaders.

The visit also aims to continue bringing the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship into a new stage of development on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, effective cooperation, and respect for each other's interests; contributing to strengthening strategic trust and deepening relations between the two countries, promoting cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the National Assembly and Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The participation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man as representative of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the 12th Plenary Session of ICAPP aims to promote the active participation and contributions of the Communist Party of Vietnam at ICAPP, promote relations with Asian political parties, contribute to common regional issues; strengthen relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), and demonstrate respect for the leadership of the Party and State of Cambodia.

At the same time, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also attended the 11th Plenary Session of IPTP as a guest of the host country to show support and goodwill towards Cambodia, especially during Cambodia's term as IPTP Chair; thereby, contributing to strengthening and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two parliaments in particular and the two countries in general.
