In order to avoid patients having to rush to higher levels for examination and treatment, recently, lower level hospitals have received and deployed many new and high-tech techniques. Thereby, gradually narrowing the gap between medical levels.
Smooth coordination between lines
Specialist II Doctor Ta Quang Tri, Director of Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital, said: After a period of careful preparation in terms of human resources and facilities, and receiving the technique of treating myocardial infarction with thrombolytic drugs from Dong Nai General Hospital, the hospital's doctors are now able to perform this technique.
The first case successfully treated with thrombolytic drugs at this remote hospital was a male patient, HHH, 63 years old, residing in Tan Phu commune. Mr. H. had symptoms of left chest pain, difficulty breathing, palpitations, and sweating. He was taken to Tan Phu Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment and was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction. The patient was quickly transferred to Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital. After examination, the doctors diagnosed the patient with a severe acute myocardial infarction. This is a dangerous cardiovascular disease that can cause rapid death if not treated promptly.
Immediately, doctors from Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital consulted with doctors from Dong Nai General Hospital and decided to treat the patient's coronary artery revascularization with thrombolytic drugs. After treatment, the patient's condition improved, chest pain was reduced, and the electrocardiogram was better. The patient was transferred to Dong Nai General Hospital for further treatment. To date, the patient's health has stabilized and he has been discharged from the hospital.
Doctor Nguyen Van Son, Department of Intensive Care - Anti-Poison, Dinh Quan Regional General Hospital, who directly performed this technique, said: Myocardial infarction is a dangerous disease, threatening the patient's life. The optimal treatment method today is vascular intervention to remove the thrombus. However, in areas far from cardiovascular intervention centers such as Dinh Quan and Tan Phu, treatment with thrombolytic drugs will optimize the "golden time" for patients.
In recent times, hospitals in the province have sent their staff to train at major hospitals, even abroad, to implement many advanced techniques such as: general surgery endoscopy, orthopedic endoscopy, trauma endoscopy, endoscopic joint replacement, etc.
Improve the quality of examination and treatment
At a recent meeting with Dong Nai General Hospital, Director of the Department of Health Do Thi Nguyen suggested that Dong Nai General Hospital should soon survey and transfer stroke treatment techniques to Binh Phuoc General Hospital. Previously, at the end of 2024, Binh Phuoc General Hospital officially deployed interventional cardiology techniques with professional support from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.
According to the leaders of the Department of Health, stroke and cardiovascular diseases are both dangerous diseases that can threaten the patient's life if not treated promptly. Meanwhile, patients in Binh Phuoc (old) have to spend a lot of time traveling to specialized hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City or Dong Nai (old). The implementation of these techniques at Binh Phuoc General Hospital will increase the chance of survival and recovery for patients; at the same time, reduce overload for upper-level hospitals.
Not only lower-level hospitals but also provincial hospitals are making efforts to deploy new techniques.
Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Tuong Quang, Deputy Director in charge of Thong Nhat General Hospital, shared: Every year, departments propose to deploy new, high-tech techniques; in which the general trend in the field of orthopedic trauma is small incisions, minimally invasive. Recently, the hospital has successfully performed techniques to treat brachial plexus paralysis, free skin flap surgery, and surgery for condyle fractures in the lower jaw.
In terms of urology, Thong Nhat General Hospital has performed prostate biopsy via ultrasound. This technique is indicated for patients with suspected prostate cancer. With the support of modern machines, MRI films, and 3D imaging, doctors will clearly see the tumor that needs biopsy, providing almost absolute accuracy and few complications. The biopsy sample is performed right at Thong Nhat General Hospital, without having to be sent to a higher-level hospital.
Meanwhile, according to Director of Dong Nai Children's Hospital Le Anh Phong, the hospital has recently deployed many advanced techniques, notably the bronchoscopy technique to successfully remove a foreign object, a plastic ballpoint pen cap, about 1cm long, in the patient's bronchus, helping the patient escape danger. In addition, there are also advanced techniques related to bone marrow, spirometry, maxillofacial surgery, etc.
