Next week, stocks will fluctuate around the 1,700 point threshold. What should investors do?

According to experts, stocks next week will still fluctuate around the 1,700 point mark and there is no momentum to break out.

Last week, VN-Index continued to increase, rebounding from the 1,640 - 1,660 zone and moving up to the resistance zone of 1,690 - 1,700. VN-Index closed the weekend session at 1,690.99, up 36.06 points (+2.18%) compared to the previous week.

The index increased positively under the influence of a few large-cap stocks, the main driving force being two Vingroup stocks (VIC, VPL) along with a number of other large-cap stocks such as VNM, GEE, and VJC.

The most prominent is VIC stock when for the first time in the history of the Vietnamese stock market, a company called VIC reached the capitalization milestone of 1 million billion VND.

Predicting the market's performance next week, Mr. Le Duc Khanh - Director of Analysis, VPS Securities, said that according to market data statistics, December is still the month with declining trading volume. With a clear "uptrend" year like this year, in addition to the previous months of strong increases and interspersed corrections, the recovery back to the old peak area from the threshold of 1,700 - 1,750 points or higher will be the trend of VN-Index in December.

The cautiousness and hesitation in trading are reflecting the state of waiting for the next acceleration of the general market. Of course, there are still other reasons that can be mentioned, from the fact that investors are holding a portfolio that is "red" - not "green", the move to hold familiar stocks "in correction", previously popular stocks, while the cash flow is being diversified into a number of other special stocks.

Perhaps the market is lacking strong enough supporting information or at least needs more time before entering a clearer recovery period, especially needing stronger liquidity increase during this period.

According to experts fromACB Securities Company, VN-Index is likely to maintain its upward momentum and approach the important resistance zone of 1,700 points - a milestone confirming the possibility of escaping the prolonged correction trend. However, due to the lack of liquidity, the possibility of conquering the 1,700 point threshold in the short term is still not high.

Meanwhile, Saigon - Hanoi Securities Joint Stock Company (SHS) commented that the short-term trend of VN-Index is positively accumulating above the support zone around 1,645 points, corresponding to the average price range of 20 sessions, expected to move towards the price range of 1,700 points. VN-Index has recovered well under the influence of a few stocks, while the majority are still under pressure of prolonged accumulation adjustment.

Many codes and groups that have peaked since September and October 2025 have now returned to a relatively reasonable price range, low-price demand has increased, supply pressure has decreased, forming a short-term bottom after the adjustment period. However, the market still has few quality investment opportunities and requires careful assessment when considering disbursement.

Tien Phong Securities Joint Stock Company (TPS) expects the VN-Index to maintain its upward trend, heading towards the target area of about 1,800 points. The condition for this scenario to occur is that the selling pressure at the 1,700 point area does not increase suddenly and the momentum from the buying side is maintained.

The HNX-Index is still moving in the range of 256 to 271 points without a clear trend. In the next trading session, TPS predicts that this index is still likely to adjust and retest the support zone of 256 points.

MBS Securities experts believe that the increased liquidity and the reduced selling signals from foreign investors could become factors supporting the market to maintain its recovery trend to the 1,680-1,700 point range in the new week.

We assess that in the context of the market being in a lack of supportive information, the VN-Index will continue its upward trend on low liquidity until it surpasses the 1,700 point threshold or there is strong enough supportive information ,” MBS forecasts.

Investors should be cautious

Investors should be cautious.

Investors should be cautious.

Giving advice to investors at this time, Ms. Le Dieu Linh - Director of Investment Consulting for Individual Clients, Rong Viet Securities said that when the index is led by a number of pillars, determining the buying point according to the index will be inaccurate.

In this context, investors should focus on each specific stock: prioritize codes that maintain good price bases, have accumulated cash flow and react clearly when the market corrects. Avoid chasing groups that have increased rapidly because of the high risk of correction when the pillars cool down.

Regarding risk management, investors should maintain a reasonable cash ratio, limit the use of high margin and divide capital into parts for exploration purchases. Most importantly, if the scenario of the adjustment pillars occurs and causes the VN-Index to fall deeply, this is not the time to be afraid but a "golden opportunity" to disburse money into good stocks that are being sold off unreasonably at attractive discount prices.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang - Director of 3 Yuanta Hanoi Business Center commented: " At this time, investors should be cautious when opening new purchases and short-term opportunities are also extremely scarce. I think the best choice at this time is still to stay out of the market and observe when liquidity is better. Observing the direction of the index now does not mean much when the fluctuations of Vin group stocks account for too large a proportion and do not reflect the general context of the market."

Meanwhile, VPS Securities experts advise that investors still have the habit of paying too much attention to the short-term developments of the general market and often trade in some familiar stock groups. If some financial stock groups perform well in the previous period, they will then give way to construction material or energy stocks...

Investors in most cases should still focus on finding and selecting individual stocks that meet investment criteria as well as suitable for short-term transactions. Portfolio control, holding a moderate proportion of stocks to have room, surplus resources to be able to focus on other opportunities that may come soon.

Many stocks with outstanding business results, maintaining prices as well as strong buying power will be prioritized rather than paying attention to the whole industry group or just depending on unverified or unimportant information. Investors should still pay more attention to the valuation and prospects of stocks to make investment decisions.
