Speaking at the program, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that, half a world away from Vietnam, Cuba has long been in the hearts of every Vietnamese person a "Heroic Island", an "Island of compassion and self-reliance", a country with beautiful scenery like a fairyland painting "Bright sunshine, silk sky and jade sea/Fresh island, a strip of peach silk flying" as described by poet To Huu - former member of the Politburo , former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Vietnam.

The image of the first and only foreign head of state to visit the "Land of Fire" Quang Tri and the immortal words "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood!" are always imprinted in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.

The steadfast, consistent relationship between the two countries was built by Cuban National Hero José Martí, President Ho Chi Minh, President Fidel Castro and has been diligently nurtured by generations of Cuban and Vietnamese leaders.
In the cultural field, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed that “Culture lights the way for the nation”, Leader Fidel Castro emphasized that “without culture there can be no freedom”, therefore Vietnam and Cuba always maintain an increasingly developing cultural exchange and cooperation relationship. Vietnam and Cuba possess unique and distinct cultures, but both maintain the beauty and value of national traditions and history.
Every year, cultural and diplomatic agencies of Vietnam and Cuba regularly coordinate with each other to organize cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation activities such as photo exhibitions, film weeks, art performances, etc.
