Vu Lan Program - Filial Piety & Nation 2024: Incense sticks of gratitude offered to our ancestors

On the afternoon of May 21, the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a press conference to introduce the Vu Lan - Filial Piety & Nation program in 2024.

Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice President of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Program Organizing Committee, said that this is a practical activity to celebrate the country's major holidays and the Vu Lan festival in Buddhist calendar 2568 - 2024, towards welcoming the United Nations Day of Vesak in 2025 hosted by Vietnam.

The event is scheduled to take place on the evening of August 10 at the Hanoi Opera House, and will be broadcast live on several channels and social platforms.

The program selects appropriate content for each year, honoring the spirit of filial piety and humanistic cultural traditions in society. At the same time, it reminds the younger generations to remember the upbringing and nurturing of grandparents - parents - ancestors as well as repay the great contributions of national heroes, predecessors, heroic martyrs and those who have contributed to the country.

Before the art exchange program takes place, the organizers will organize a pilgrimage "Following the footsteps of the Dien Bien soldiers of the past", visiting the A1 national cemetery, commemorating the heroic martyrs who remained on the Dien Bien battlefield during the fierce years of resistance against the French and giving charity gifts to policy families and those in difficulty in the locality.

The program is expected to donate canteens to preschool children in disadvantaged areas of Dien Bien province, and give gifts and savings books to some Dien Bien veterans... in mid-July 2024.

Within the framework of the art exchange night program, the organizers will spend part of the budget to give gifts and savings books to some relatives of martyrs who participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, lonely elderly people with no place to rely on and people facing difficult circumstances in life.
