On October 22, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine officially announced the suspension of the Vietnamese-German Medical Program.
To deal with the situation, the school transferred all students of the 2025 class of this program to the regular Medical Doctor program. At the same time, the school organized a dialogue with parents and students of the 2023 and 2024 classes on the same afternoon.
The Medical Doctor training cooperation program between Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU, Germany) was implemented since 2013.
However, after the review and official exchange process between the two schools, the German partner announced the termination of cooperation in training the Vietnamese-German Medical program from the 2024 school year.
Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine emphasized that this is a systematic change from Germany, not stemming from any violation or disagreement between the two training institutions.
The main reason given is the change in the policy of providing exam questions and recognizing international medical programs of the German National Institute for Medical Examinations (IMPP). Specifically, the IMPP (German Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examinations) will stop providing the national M2 exam after 2027.
Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine said that the school has made many efforts to discuss, propose solutions and expressed the desire to maintain the program. However, at the present time, changes in policy from the German side are factors beyond the school's ability to adjust.
Faced with this situation, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine proactively implemented a plan to adjust the training program to ensure the learning rights and stability of students.
For the 2025 class, all students will be transferred to the regular Medical Doctor training program of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, starting from October 20.
The school commits to ensuring a 6-year continuous learning roadmap according to the program approved by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Health, at the same time, publicizing and transparently disclosing academic and financial contents, fully protecting the rights of students.
For the 2023 and 2024 classes, the school will actively discuss with partners so that the 2023 and 2024 classes can proceed as before to ensure the rights of students and their families.
The live dialogue session on the afternoon of October 22 was held to provide clear information to parents and students of these two courses about the reasons for termination, study plans, financial plans, results recognition plans and support during the transition period (if any).
