Vietnam is accelerating digital transformation through the application of AI in all areas of social life. The challenge is how to transform AI to effectively apply it to improve the quality of digital transformation (DT).
Creating conditions for start-ups
The "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030" approved by the Prime Minister focuses on expanding the digital economy , expected to account for 20% of GDP by 2025 and 30% by 2030. The focus of the program is to promote digital transformation in enterprises to enhance national competitiveness and increase value for domestic enterprises.
AI transformation is indispensable in the new digital transformation era. Hypoteuse AI emphasizes: "Leaders who have not yet taken advantage of AI may fall behind competitors who are seizing the opportunity." According to Hypoteuse AI, AI transformation is the process of deploying AI and machine learning (ML) to improve the way businesses operate and develop strategies. This process often requires changes to business processes, organizational structures, and employee roles. AI transformation helps automate repetitive and routine tasks, freeing up employees to increase productivity; providing insights to optimize business processes and workflows. At the same time, AI helps increase competitive advantage by enhancing customer experience, accelerating product development, and improving decision making.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh - Chairman of CMC Technology Group, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Private Entrepreneurs Association - said that Vietnam is entering a special period with great changes in technology; Digital transformation and AI are not just trends, but have become urgent requirements for businesses to survive and develop. Mr. Chinh commented: "Digital transformation is not just the application of technology, but a comprehensive revolution, from institutions to production methods". In this context, Vietnam Private Entrepreneurs Association recognizes that digital transformation and AI transformation play a key role in the revolution to build new productive forces and new production relations to serve the socio-economic development of the country. In September 2024, CMC officially announced the group's AI transformation strategy.
Ho Chi Minh City, with its advantage, is home to many digital transformation and AI projects of all scales and levels, from the government sector to the business sector and society. Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized: "We will create conditions for technology startups, promote AI research and development in universities, and establish new technology research and development centers". Since September 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has put into operation the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (HCMC C4IR) with the mission of promoting innovation and transferring advanced technology.
Save costs, increase labor productivity
According to Landing AI's AI Transformation Handbook, after 2-3 years of AI transformation, companies can start seeing a return on their AI investment within 6-12 months.
At the Techday 2024 event held in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of 2024, Mr. Vu Anh Tu, FPT Chief Technology Officer (CTO), cited the benefits that AI transformation brings to FPT Technology Group. For example, AI is integrated with cloud computing to form an AI Factory, providing smart AI services on the cloud. According to Mr. Tu, thanks to AI Factory, FPT's AI capacity is increased 100 times. At the end of 2024, FPT launched FPT's AI Factory in Japan, contributing to the development of sovereign AI for this modern industrial country. FPT's CTO estimated that when conducting AI transformation, businesses can save 50% of costs, increase labor productivity by 67%, with the ability to take care of customers 24/7, as well as create greater values and new business opportunities for businesses.
Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Private Entrepreneurs Nguyen Trung Chinh made five specific recommendations to Vietnamese leaders to promote the digital transformation and AI process in Vietnam. That is, the state needs to have comprehensive support policies for enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, to help them seize opportunities from new technologies. In addition, it is necessary to focus on in-depth training in digital skills and AI to meet the requirements of the digital production force; promote institutional and legal reforms to facilitate the application of technology. Increase access to capital and financial support for innovation projects, promote cooperation between enterprises and research organizations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vu Anh Tu said that in the AI transformation phase, businesses need to solve the problem of how to understand customers, approach them intelligently, and at the same time take advantage of the power of data and AI to create new breakthrough business directions. However, according to Mr. Tu, the application of AI in Vietnam today faces many challenges. Due to their small scale, small and medium enterprises face many difficulties in identifying specific problems, management methods, and measuring the effectiveness of AI.
Need "ready-made" solutions for businesses in the same industry
According to experts, the government needs to have solutions to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in applying AI. In fact, SMEs find it difficult to get investment capital for AI. Therefore, AI solutions that are "tailor-made" for each enterprise are impossible for them. According to Mr. Vu Anh Tu, the solutions that are considered suitable for SMEs are "ready-made" solutions that can be used by many enterprises in the same industry and are provided by a professional unit.
