Vietnam is accelerating its digital transformation through the application of AI in all aspects of social life. The challenge lies in how to effectively apply AI to enhance the quality of digital transformation.

Creating a favorable environment for startups.

The "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030," approved by the Prime Minister, focuses on expanding the digital economy , projected to account for 20% of GDP by 2025 and 30% by 2030. The program's core focus is on promoting digital transformation within businesses to enhance national competitiveness and increase value for domestic enterprises.

Digital transformation in the new era cannot be achieved without AI transformation. Hypoteuse AI emphasizes: "Leaders who haven't leveraged AI may fall behind competitors who are seizing the opportunity." According to Hypoteuse AI, AI transformation is the process of deploying AI and machine learning (ML) to improve how businesses operate and develop strategies. This process often requires changes to business processes, organizational structures, and employee roles. AI transformation automates repetitive and routine tasks, freeing up employees to increase their productivity; it provides insights to optimize business processes and workflows. Simultaneously, AI enhances competitive advantage by improving customer experience, accelerating product development, and improving decision-making.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman of CMC Technology Group and Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Private Entrepreneurs Association, believes that Vietnam is entering a special period with profound technological changes; digital transformation and AI are not just trends, but have become urgent requirements for businesses to survive and develop. Mr. Chinh stated: "Digital transformation is not just about applying technology, but a comprehensive revolution, from institutions to production methods." In this context, the Vietnam Private Entrepreneurs Association recognizes that digital transformation and AI transformation play a crucial role in the revolution to build new productive forces and new production relations to serve the socio-economic development of the country. In September 2024, CMC officially announced its AI transformation strategy.

Ho Chi Minh City, with its advantages as a hub for digital transformation and AI transformation projects of various scales and levels, from government to businesses and society as a whole, is poised for success. Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized: "We will create favorable conditions for technology startups, promote AI research and development in universities, and establish centers for research and development of new technologies." Since September 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has launched the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (HCMC C4IR) with the mission of promoting innovation and the transfer of advanced technologies.

Save costs, increase labor productivity.

According to Landing AI's AI Transformation Handbook, after 2-3 years of AI transformation, companies can begin to see returns on their AI investment within 6-12 months.

At the Techday 2024 event held in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of 2024, Mr. Vu Anh Tu, Chief Technology Officer (CTO)of FPT , cited the benefits that AI transformation brings to FPT Technology Group. For example, AI is integrated with cloud computing to form an AI Factory, providing intelligent AI services on the cloud. According to Mr. Tu, thanks to the AI Factory, FPT's AI capabilities have increased 100 times. At the end of 2024, FPT launched its AI Factory in Japan, contributing to the development of sovereign AI for this modern industrialized country. The CTO of FPT estimates that when undertaking AI transformation, the company can save 50% of costs, increase labor productivity by 67%, with the ability to provide 24/7 customer care, as well as create greater value and new business opportunities for the company.

Nguyen Trung Chinh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Private Business Association, has put forward five specific recommendations to Vietnamese leaders to promote digital transformation and AI in Vietnam. These include: the need for comprehensive government support policies for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to help them seize opportunities from new technologies; focusing on in-depth training in digital and AI skills to meet the demands of the digital workforce; accelerating institutional and legal reforms to facilitate technology application; increasing access to capital and financial support for innovation projects; and promoting cooperation between businesses and research institutions.

Meanwhile, Mr. Vu Anh Tu argued that during the AI transformation phase, businesses need to solve the problem of how to understand customers, approach them intelligently, and leverage the power of data and AI to create groundbreaking new business directions. However, according to Mr. Tu, the application of AI in Vietnam currently faces many challenges. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), due to their small scale, encounter many difficulties in identifying specific problems, managing methods, and measuring the effectiveness of AI.

We need "ready-made" solutions for businesses in the same industry.

According to experts, the government needs to provide solutions to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in applying AI. In reality, SMEs struggle to secure investment capital for AI. Therefore, AI solutions tailored specifically to each business are impossible for them. According to Mr. Vu Anh Tu, the most suitable solution for SMEs is a ready-made solution that can be used by many businesses in the same industry and provided by a professional provider.
