Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung, Director of Duc Giang General Hospital, gave the above information at the workshop on updating diagnosis, treatment of diabetes and complications in 2025 held on the afternoon of November 19 in Hanoi .
The conference is a meaningful scientific forum, an opportunity for experts and doctors to exchange experiences, update modern medical advances through the latest evidence and research, thereby improving the quality of care, treatment and quality of life for people with diabetes.

Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung, Director of Duc Giang General Hospital spoke.
Concerns about younger diabetic patients
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung, diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world , with the incidence rate constantly increasing, especially in Vietnam. Updating the latest recommendations in diabetes treatment is very important, helping to improve the quality of diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive care for patients.
The workshop was attended by a team of reporters who are lecturers, expert doctors in the fields of endocrinology-cardiology-clinical nutrition, and representatives of leaders of hospitals and medical stations in the area...
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung said that among the chronic diseases managed by Duc Giang General Hospital and other medical facilities, diabetes is the disease with the highest rate. According to hospital statistics, the number of people with diabetes accounts for 50% to 60% of the number of patients examined daily, equivalent to about 700 to 900 patients. Currently, this unit is managing about 6,000 patients with diabetes.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung emphasized that the trend of diabetes getting younger is becoming a worrying reality.
While previously most people with the disease were over 40, now the number of patients between 20 and 30 years old is increasing and continues to increase. What makes doctors particularly worried is the cases of diabetes appearing in adolescents, under 18 years old.
Explaining this situation, Associate Professor Tung said that being overweight and obese is the cause of type 2 diabetes in children and young people.
"Consuming too much fast food, lack of exercise, spending long periods of time on electronic devices and online games increases mental stress levels, disrupts daily routines, leads to overweight and then progresses to illness.
These factors combine to create a more obvious disease risk than before, forcing the health sector to adjust its approach, especially in young patients," said Mr. Tung.

Towards personalized diabetes treatment
According to Mr. Tung, treating diabetes in young people is always a special challenge. Although the disease does not cause as many serious complications as in older patients, controlling blood sugar is difficult because young people need to maintain a normal rhythm of study, work, and daily activities.
They must adhere to a reasonable diet, exercise regularly and take medication as prescribed, but at the same time must also integrate into a dynamic and stressful living environment. This makes maintaining blood sugar stability complicated and requires close, flexible instructions from doctors.
Middle-aged people have a different set of challenges. Older adults have their own challenges related to underlying medical conditions or reduced mobility.
"Each age group has different difficulties. Therefore, at Duc Giang General Hospital, we aim to individualize diabetes treatment for each patient" - Associate Professor, Dr. Do Dinh Tung affirmed.
Within the framework of the program, delegates listened to a number of reports sharing experiences in diagnosing and treating diabetes and its complications at medical examination and treatment facilities in recent times.
