Bundesliga club brings strong squad to play Vietnam women's team

(NLDO) - Werder Bremen women's club arrived in Hanoi this morning and had 2 days to prepare before entering the friendly match with the Vietnamese women's team.

This morning (May 14), the Werder Bremen women's club (Germany) arrived in Hanoi, ready for a friendly match with the Vietnamese women's team. This is a special sporting event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Werder Bremen brought a strong squad of 26 players and 9 coaching staff members. Coach Thomas Horsch affirmed that he had great respect for the opponent ranked 37th in the world so he called up the strongest squad.

Striker Larissa Muhlhaus is the most notable name. The 22-year-old player scored 8 goals last season. She won the title of top scorer in the German Second Division last season with 22 goals for Hamburg. In addition, Juliane Wirtz, sister of German international Florian Wirtz, also plays as a key midfielder, having made 19 appearances for Bremen this season.

With outstanding physiques, especially the two 1m80 tall central defenders, Lara Schmidt and Hanna Nemeth of the German team promise to create a significant challenge for the Vietnamese players. This is a valuable opportunity for the team to practice their ability to compete and confront opponents with superior physical strength.

During their 3-day stay in Vietnam, the members of the Werder Bremen Women's Club were arranged to stay at a 5-star hotel and take the opportunity to visit Hanoi . Previously, the team had just finished the Women's Bundesliga season in 7th place after 22 rounds (9 wins, 2 draws, 11 losses - scoring 28 goals, conceding 39).

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation emphasized: "The match is an important preparation step for the big goals of women's football in 2025. This is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese women's team to accumulate international experience and improve their competitive spirit."

On the guest team's side, Werder Bremen Football Director Clemens Fritz shared: "We are honored to be part of this meaningful event. The match against the Vietnamese women's team will be a memorable highlight in the team's journey after the 2024-2025 season."

Not only is it an exciting professional competition, the match is also a bridge to enhance sports and cultural exchange between Vietnam and Germany, as well as demonstrate the increasingly strong development of Vietnamese women's football towards the 2026 Asian qualifiers.

The match between the Vietnamese women's team and the German representative will take place at 7 p.m. on May 16 at Hang Day Stadium. The match will be free for domestic football fans.
