Nam Dinh Club recruits coach who missed V-League promotion 3 times

Coach Mauro Jeronimo became the new head coach of Nam Dinh Club from November 2025.

On November 14, Nam Dinh FC announced new head coach Mauro Jeronimo . The contract between the Southern team and Mauro is for 2 years, from now until 2027.

Nam Dinh Club also made a series of personnel changes in the leadership, when interim coach Nguyen Trung Kien will return to the position of Technical Director, and Mr. Vu Hong Viet will become Executive Director.

Coach Mauro Jeronimo was born in 1987 in Portugal. He has led PVF-CAND Club (formerly known as Pho Hien) to play in the First Division since 2019.

Becoming the head coach of Nam Dinh FC is something that even coach Mauro Jeronimo could not have imagined in his dreams. When he was still leading PVF-CAND, he led the team to the runner-up position in the First Division 3 times, but missed out on promotion after losing 3 play-off matches (in 2019, 2023 and 2024).

In March, coach Mauro Jeronimo parted ways with PVF-CAND after a series of unsatisfactory matches. In October, he was invited by The Cong - Viettel to become the Head of the youth training system, but parted ways after just over a month.

However, coach Mauro has made significant contributions in training the current generation of talented players for U22 Vietnam, with notable individuals such as Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Xuan Bac and Nguyen Hieu Minh.

"I am honored to work at Nam Dinh Green Steel. This is a quality team, well invested, with many good players. We will fight together to achieve the best results.

This season, Nam Dinh will participate in 4 tournaments, both international and domestic. It is both a challenge and an honor. Not many teams in Vietnam have such an opportunity," Coach Mauro shared when meeting the players at Thien Truong Stadium.

Coach Mauro Jeronimo will make his debut for his new team on November 23, when Nam Dinh FC hosts Long An in the National Cup.

Nam Dinh FC is on a 7-match winless streak in all competitions. In the V-League, the team from the South is only ranked 10th/14 in the rankings with 10 points, 17 points behind the top team Ninh Binh but still has a chance to win the championship in theory.

In the AFC Champions League Two and ASEAN Club Championship, Nam Dinh still have a chance to enter the knockout round.

Leading Nam Dinh will be a breakthrough step in the career of a coach who has never worked in the V-League or participated in the Asian Cup like Mauro Jeronimo .
