PV: “Love” has a special fate because after 7 years, it became more widely known, was translated into English and Italian by your foreign friends, reached the Vatican and was accepted by the Pope. Can you share about this special opportunity?
Ha Huy Thanh: When I went abroad to work, I was very proud of Vietnam. Mario, a colleague of mine, read this book in English (I translated it for my staff to read) and told me that his book was very special, the ideas in the book expressed the nature of the Vietnamese people, helping him explain Vietnam. This is a value that Europeans highly value. Therefore, he connected to translate it into Italian and organized a book launch in Rome.
I think I have a “special” fate, so the book is also special. Fate has let me experience many situations, like a journey for me to fulfill my wishes. With love, I can talk to anyone, from the Pope, the president or a homeless person and I know that love is the solution for them; no matter what problem they have, no matter who they are. There was a cancer patient who wrote to me that she was being treated in the hospital and her daughter showed love to her for the first time after reading my book. She bought my book for her mother. She thanked me for helping her daughter express her love to her mother.
What would happen to humanity without love?
PV: Looking back, we can see that “Love” has had a miraculous journey when connecting and spreading to international friends, being shared by the Pope and considering love as a cultural heritage of Vietnam and humanity. As for you, what is your concept of love and how have you conveyed the message of love to everyone?
Ha Huy Thanh: For me, love is a legacy of Vietnam and we have lived with it throughout our nation's history. We won wars with peace and love. Love overcomes hatred, erases all differences, and unites millions of people into one, creating strength. Vietnam is a country of love. If we look at Vietnam through a slice of history, it will be very painful, but if we look at it through the length of history, we will see love running through it like a red thread.
The nature of love is very magical and life is a journey of love, it will spread by itself. My father did not read this book 7 years ago, but recently he read it and shared that he was enlightened by love and lived a happier, more meaningful life. At an international book conference, a speaker asked him how the love he taught his son was different from the love he wrote in the book. He replied: "I teach my son with traditional love, with instinct, emotion, while my son writes with the love of wisdom".
PV: The journey of love is a journey to find the cultural roots of each nation. The common point of each nation, each religion, each person is "Love". If we awaken the source of love energy in each person, we will have a humanity of "Love". So, in your opinion, how can we "awaken" love in each person?
Ha Huy Thanh: “We are not people with spiritual experiences, but we are spiritual beings with human experiences” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said so. Having come to this life, I am extremely grateful for the people I have had the opportunity to meet, the circumstances life brings and appreciate life as it is. When there is love, which means “Understanding-Sharing-Creating-Solution”, I am even more grateful for life, when I realize that each of us is an element in the universe and a factor in the endless journey to find Truth-Goodness-Beauty of humanity. Since birth, each of us has faced countless questions from the hardships of life, the work to do, the roles to fulfill… making us seem to forget to answer the question: “Where do we come from and where will we go?”. I boldly sow a field and hope that the field will spread its fragrance.
Every human being must breathe. When we breathe, we are connected to the universal energy. However, we need a stronger connection with the laws of the universe. Therefore, we need to realize who we are, besides what we were born to be. Therefore, awakening to love is the journey to find our true self.
PV: What do you think about the fact that you lost many friends when writing this book because they did not sympathize with you? Does love also cause loss?
Ha Huy Thanh: Love is a source of energy. If it stops at the level of affection, charity, and grace, people will feel close and sympathetic. But if love reaches the level of intelligence, they will see love as a burden and they do not dare to face it.
I think that these are temporary losses but also the law on the journey to find one’s own path. Those people do not think that love is a genetic code and a characteristic that must be present in every action. They also do not think that Vietnam is a country of love. But I believe that one day, everyone will realize that love originates in each of us. To practice love, sometimes we have to give up old habits to “understand, share and create solutions”.
PV: As long as evil exists, the value of love is eternal. What would happen to humanity without love? But when the world is filled with love, will love still have value?
Ha Huy Thanh: Nature and humans are similar in that they are both born from broken pieces. The feeling of peace in the mother's womb is absolute peace, it is a world of overflowing love. Many people say there is no absolute love, but clearly we are born from absolute love. However, for many reasons we forget that origin. The origin of each of us is from absolute love.
In the book just released to readers, developed from the book Love, I wrote an important part: "Applying Love in Life" after 7 years of practicing love with gratitude. Applying love will bring miraculous beauty to life. It is the origin of all religions. For me, love belongs to nature, I explore nature and discover some of its laws to return to solve human problems.
PV: Some people say that your book is not very practical for many people, especially when you discuss how to solve global problems through love. It is too general. What do you think about this opinion?
Ha Huy Thanh: I think that I have found the content of intelligent love is "Understanding-Sharing-Creating-Solving" so sticking to this content will help us identify and solve problems more clearly. I wrote this book with intuition so there is an emotional element of intuition. I have tested that intuitive feeling in practice.
To solve global problems, I think we must find the root of the global problem. And, the root of the global problem is the problem of awareness from individuals to the community. So, if each of us solves our personal problems, especially the leaders, creates a common consensus, a common culture, then we have the basis to solve global problems. The key point that I call the key to the global problem - that is "Love".

PV: I remember, in the 2000s, when you were a student, you were the pioneer in bringing Tony Buzan's "Mind Map" to Vietnam. Why?
Ha Huy Thanh: I am addicted to knowledge, addicted to thinking. When I was a student, I also studied well in the traditional way. When I went to university, I was curious about the brain. The only means I had to be good was my brain and I had to use it to optimize that means: I had to understand it. I taught free of charge to students andeducational companies about mind mapping. After graduating, I did business and realized that there was another brain that was more important, that brain helped me discover the “key” to love.
I understand that love is the key and I understand where the key is. I live awakened by love, and I am awakened by love. I am just a means and will continue my journey, my mission is to prove to everyone that: Vietnam is a country of love. I will go into issues of love with AI (artificial intelligence), with global issues and want to build a cultural community of love.
PV: Being a descendant of the late General Secretary Ha Huy Tap, is that luck or pressure for you?
Ha Huy Thanh: I think it is more of a motivation, even though I am in a different generation from him. His mission was to make the country independent. My generation's mission is to make the nation glorious. I have the motivation, in difficult times, they did it. So, our generation has many advantages, why don't we dare to take the plunge? I consider myself lucky to be born in Ha Tinh, a land with a tradition of love of learning and knowledge.
PV: Born into a traditional, studious family, what memories do you have of your great-grandfather? How is the story of General Secretary Ha Huy Tap told?
Ha Huy Thanh: In my memory, I saw many photos of Mr. Ha Huy Tap when he was a teacher at Hue National School, teaching ethnic programs and was dismissed from teaching. Then, by chance, I became the great-grandson of the family to continue the mission of finding his grave, it was a journey of the past connected to the present. I felt like I was participating in a part of his history, that feeling was extremely beautiful and romantic. At the age of 19, I participated in the program to find Mr. Ha Huy Tap's remains and 8 years later, I had the honor of reading his memorial speech. I think that today's presence is connected to the past.
PV: When you were quite young, you were nominated by your family and clan to be the “Program Director”, directly representing your family and clan to read the farewell speech at the memorial service for the late General Secretary Ha Huy Tap, which was held according to national protocol. Have you ever wondered why you were given this important responsibility?
Ha Huy Thanh: The search for the remains to bring Ha Huy Tap back to his hometown Ha Tinh has been a concern for the entire family. Through many generations, this matter has been a constant pain for 68 years since the day he was executed and beheaded after the Nam Ky uprising. Our Ha family has many talented children such as Professor Ha Van Tan, Professor Ha Hoc Trac and uncles in the family who spent 8 years searching, using many ways and methods. At that time, I was young, the youngest child in the family, not the eldest grandson. However, the family and clan chose me to carry out that sacred mission, because my grandfathers and uncles believed that I had that mission. The mission that I was taught was "mission to ancestors, mission to seniors". When I knew that I was the chosen one, as a son of the family, I complied. It took me 8 years to find his remains and bring him back to his hometown. To me, my homeland is a beautiful reality.
Author Ha Huy Thanh talks with reporters.
PV: How did your family background and traditional background influence your development path? How did you inherit the legacy left by Mr. Ha Huy Tap?
Ha Huy Thanh: He was a leader who sought to liberate the nation. I learned from his spirit of dedication and the great ideas he left behind. As a young person, we must adapt but also know how to resolve and solve problems. So, today, why don't we dare to commit ourselves? Searching for the greatness of a nation is an arduous journey, but that doesn't mean it's impossible?
PV: Thank you for your conversation.
