Ryan Evans, who was working as a security consultant for the agency, was killed after a rocket hit the Sapphire Hotel where he was staying with a group of six people on Saturday, Reuters said in a statement.

Two journalists from the agency are being treated in hospital, one seriously injured. "We are urgently seeking further information about the attack, including working with the authorities in Kramatorsk," Reuters said.

Evans, a 38-year-old British military veteran, has worked with Reuters since 2022 and advises the agency's journalists on safety issues around the world , including in Ukraine, Israel and the Paris Olympics.

Reuters said three other members of the news agency's team who were at the hotel at the time of the attack were confirmed safe.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the hotel was hit by a Russian Iskander missile, a ballistic missile that can strike at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. "An ordinary hotel in the city was destroyed by a Russian Iskander missile," he said on Sunday evening.

Earlier, the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office said in a Telegram post that the body of a British citizen was found in the rubble of a hotel building in Kramatorsk.

The hotel was “destroyed” at 10:35 p.m. local time on Saturday “possibly by an Iskander-M missile,” the report said. The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the incident.
