PNJ chairman's daughter wants to buy nearly 400 billion VND worth of stocks
Specifically, Ms. Tran Phuong Ngoc Thao - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of PNJ, and also the daughter of Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of this company, registered to buy 4 million PNJ shares from December 18, 2024 to January 16, 2025.
Ms. Thao said the purpose of the transaction is to increase the ownership ratio at the gold and gemstone company of which her mother is the chairwoman. The transaction method will be by agreement or order matching.
If the purchase is successful, Ms. Thao’s ownership ratio at PNJ will increase from 2.33% to 3.51% of charter capital. Ms. Thao currently owns nearly 9.7 million shares of this gold and silver company.
At the end of the session on December 13, the market price of each PNJ share was 97,000 VND, an increase of more than 23% over the past year. It is estimated that with this price, Ms. Thao had to spend about 390 billion VND.

According to information from the annual report, Ms. Tran Phuong Ngoc Thao was born in 1984, has a BA in Economics and Business Administration from Oxford University (UK) and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University (USA).
Since 2019, Ms. Thao joined PNJ as Senior Director of Digital Transformation. From June 2020 to April 2023, Ms. Thao assumed the role of member of the Board of Directors of PNJ.
At the same time, from 2022, she also holds the position of Chairman of PNJ Valuation Company Limited (PNJL). In April 2023, Ms. Thao officially assumed the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of PNJ.
PNJ's management report shows that, in addition to Ms. Thao, Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Dung has two other daughters, Tran Phuong Ngoc Giao and Tran Phuong Ngoc Ha, and a son-in-law, Nguyen Minh Luan.
Regarding business results, PNJ said that in the 10 months of 2024, net revenue reached VND 32,371 billion and profit after tax reached VND 1,600 billion, up 22.7% and 4.4% respectively over the same period.
However, in the first 10 months of 2024, PNJ's average gross profit margin reached 16.9%, down from 18.5% in the same period in 2023.
VIB and Masan boss's daughter also spends hundreds of billions of dong
Recently, the wife and daughter of the VIB bank boss also spent hundreds of billions to buy shares. Specifically, Ms. Dang Thi Thu Ha - wife of the vice chairman of Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB) Dang Van Son, has just reported to the Securities Commission about registering to buy 10 million VIB shares.
The above transaction is expected to take place from November 27 to December 26, by negotiation and/or order matching.
According to the report, Ms. Ha's purpose in making the transaction is to change her personal finances. If the purchase is successful, Ms. Ha will increase her ownership in VIB from 71.6 million shares, or 2.821%, to nearly 81.6 million shares (3.215% of VIB's capital).
The above shares of Ms. Ha do not include 12.2 million bonus shares for existing shareholders at a rate of 17% waiting to be returned.
At the same time, Ms. Dang Minh Ngoc - Mr. Son's daughter also registered to buy 4 million VIB shares. Thereby, Ms. Ngoc's ownership at VIB increased from 4.07 million shares with a ratio of 0.16% to nearly 8.07 million shares (0.318%). This number of shares also does not include 691,254 bonus shares for existing shareholders with a ratio of 17% waiting to be returned.
At the end of the session on December 13, each VIB share had a market price of VND19,250. Thus, Mr. Son's wife and daughter are expected to spend more than VND270 billion on the transaction.
Previously, Ms. Nguyen Yen Linh - daughter of billionaire Nguyen Dang Quang (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masan Group Corporation) also completed the purchase of nearly 8.5 million MSN shares of Masan from October 29 to November 18 by order matching and negotiation.
Initially, billionaire Quang's daughter registered to buy 10 million shares, but in reality, she only bought 85% of the registered shares. The reason given by Ms. Linh was "no agreement was reached". After the above transaction, Ms. Linh increased her ownership ratio from 0% to 0.59%.
Recently, MSN stock prices have tended to adjust according to the general fluctuations of the VN-Index. At the same time, this is also one of the stocks that foreign investors have sold the most. It is estimated that Ms. Linh spent more than 600 billion VND to buy the above shares.
