Announcement of decision on administrative unit arrangement of An Giang province

On the morning of June 30, An Giang province held a ceremony to announce the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending district-level administrative units; establishing Party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of provinces, communes, wards, and special zones.

Attending and directing the ceremony were comrades: Mai Van Chinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Duong Thanh Binh, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for People's Aspirations and Supervision.

Comrades: Nguyen Tan Dung, former Politburo member, former Prime Minister; General Le Hong Anh, former Politburo member, former Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat.

Comrade Le Hong Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Tien Hai, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, and other comrades who are leaders of the Party Committees and authorities of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces.

At the ceremony, comrade Duong Thanh Binh announced the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central Committee on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units; on the establishment of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee; on the appointment of the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Secretary, Deputy Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; on the appointment of the Inspection Committee, Chairman, Vice Chairmen of the Inspection Committee of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; on the appointment of the Head and Deputy Head of the Delegation of the 15th National Assembly of An Giang Province; on the appointment of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the People's Council, Heads of the Committees of the An Giang Provincial People's Council; on the appointment of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee; on the establishment of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang Province, recognition of members of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang Province for the 2024-2029 term and positions in the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang Province.

Accordingly, comrade Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee (new), term 2020-2025. Deputy Secretaries include: Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Lam Minh Thanh, Ho Van Mung, Tran Thi Thanh Huong.

Comrade Ho Van Mung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province was appointed to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province for the 2021-2026 term. The Vice Chairmen of the People's Committee of An Giang province include: Nguyen Thanh Phong, Le Van Phuoc, Le Trung Ho, Giang Thanh Khoa, Ngo Cong Thuc, Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy.

Comrade Tran Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, member of the 15th National Assembly, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of An Giang province was recognized as Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province and 9 Vice Chairmen of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province.

On the basis of merging Kien Giang and An Giang provinces, the new An Giang province has a large development space with a natural area of 9,888.91 km2 , a population of 4,952,238 people, and 102 commune-level administrative units (including 85 communes, 14 wards and 3 special zones).

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh said that An Giang province now has a full range of diverse geographical factors from sea, islands, mountains and forests to fertile plains, with an increasingly synchronous system of transport, irrigation, electricity and water infrastructure, along with an abundant local labor force.

This is an outstanding opportunity and a great competitive advantage in developing marine economy, eco-tourism, high-tech agriculture and processing industry.

Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh requested that from July 1, Party committees, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organizations of An Giang province must immediately direct the smooth operation of the new apparatus, proactively develop specific action plans. In particular, it is necessary to clearly define tasks, solutions, roadmaps and implementation progress to achieve the highest results, effectively put the Central Government's major and new strategic policies and orientations into practice and promote the spirit of setting an example for the common good.

It is necessary to promote the core spirit of serving people and businesses better, while preserving the image and style of officials "from serving administration to serving the people".

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that for commune-level areas lacking specialized staff, the provincial level needs to proactively arrange and promptly and fully increase them to support and ensure work is not interrupted.

Speaking at the ceremony to receive the assignment, the new Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tien Hai said that he will seriously accept the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh. The Party Committee and government of An Giang province will immediately carry out key tasks according to the direction of the Central Government.

In addition, the Standing Committee of An Giang Provincial Party Committee will focus on directing the completion of the 2-level Party Congresses, ensuring the content and time prescribed by the Central Committee; directing the preparation of the An Giang Provincial Party Congress, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party.

Earlier, the same morning, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh offered incense at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Kien Giang province (now An Giang) and visited the National Historical and Cultural Relic of Nguyen Trung Truc's Tomb and Communal House in Rach Gia ward.
