Landslide situation is complicated

According to local authorities, landslides in this area have been occurring for many years, with the land eroding 1-2 meters each year, and have now encroached about 30 meters into the river. The landslides have caused 10 houses to collapse into the river, and many crops, structures, and hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of soil to be washed away, especially during high tides.

Currently, the landslide area has a total length of about 300m, of which the Xom Cau 3-way intersection section, about 50m long, is identified as a particularly dangerous location, when the river edge is only 0.5 - 1m from the house wall and the landslide depth is 3 - 5m, at risk of collapse at any time.

Serious landslides affect people's lives

The landslide directly affected 10 households with 40 people living and staying in the area. Although the people and the government have reinforced the area with coconut piles many times, the situation is still complicated, especially when heavy rains combine with high tides. If not handled promptly, the landslide will become more serious in the coming time, especially when rains combine with high tides, which will threaten the safety of life and property of people living in the above area.

Faced with that situation, the Provincial People's Committee requested the People's Committee of Can Giuoc commune to closely monitor the landslide developments, proactively evacuate residents from dangerous areas, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property. At the same time, it is necessary to propagate, warn and strictly prohibit people from approaching the landslide area, not allowing watercraft to anchor, arrange forces to guard and maintain security and order, prepare planning plans, and arrange new residential areas to relocate affected households.

Landslides affect people's housing

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to survey, select technical solutions, establish a project for landslide prevention works in emergency situations, submit it to competent authorities for appraisal and approval; the Department of Finance shall advise on arranging funding sources to implement the project according to regulations./.
