That was the direction of the Party Central Committee member and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son at the 29th Congress of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union for the 2023-2028 term on the morning of August 11, to meet the requirements of continuing to build a diplomatic sector: modern, comprehensive and professional.

On the morning of August 11, at the new office building No. 2 Le Quang Dao, Hanoi , the 29th Congress of Delegates of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union, term 2023-2028 continued its working program.

On the side of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there were comrade Ha Kim Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; comrade Nguyen Minh Hang, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; comrades in the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Ministry and nearly 180 delegates representing more than 2,000 union members of the Departments, Offices, Institutes and units under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 29th Congress of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union has the task of summarizing and evaluating the achievements of trade union activities in the 2017-2023 term, at the same time drawing lessons, setting goals, directions and tasks for the 2023-2028 term to continue building the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union organization to become increasingly stronger.

According to the political report of the Executive Committee of the Trade Union of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, term XXVIII, the discussions of the grassroots and affiliated trade unions all affirmed that the Trade Union of the Ministry has been and is truly a spiritual support for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers at the Ministry and has received the support and trust of all union members. Thereby, contributing to the successful implementation of the political tasks of the Ministry and the Foreign Affairs sector.

Comrade Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, President of the Vietnam Civil Servants' Trade Union expressed his admiration and respect for the great achievements that the diplomatic sector has achieved in recent times.

Most notably, the union has done a good job of protecting the rights of workers, many activities of visiting, charity, gratitude, repaying kindness, and taking care of the next generation of young people. Propaganda and education work has been paid attention to, regularly promoting emulation movements, contributing to the excellent completion of the industry's tasks.

In particular, comrade Ngo Duy Hieu expressed his admiration and appreciation for the great achievements that the diplomatic sector has achieved during the recent difficult period, including the contributions of Vaccine Diplomacy, Diplomacy serving economic development, visits of major partners, etc.

In the new term, comrade Ngo Duy Hieu requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union to seriously implement the contents of the Minister's direction. The Minister emphasized that looking back over the past 5 years, the Foreign Affairs sector, together with the country, has gone through many difficulties and challenges, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the correct leadership of the Party, the centralized and unified management of the State, the support and assistance of all levels, sectors and agencies in the political system, the Foreign Affairs sector has achieved great achievements, making important contributions to the cause of national development and protection of the Fatherland, effectively controlling and safely adapting to the Covid-19 pandemic, promoting socio-economic recovery and development.

“The Ministry’s Trade Union has made an important contribution to the overall achievements of the Foreign Affairs sector,” the Minister said, adding that the trade union’s work with many meaningful activities has contributed to uniting and promoting the collective strength of more than 2,000 trade union members and employees of the Foreign Affairs sector working at home and abroad to successfully carry out the tasks assigned by the Party and the State to the Foreign Affairs sector.

Under the leadership of the Executive Committee, trade union activities at all levels have become increasingly diverse, effectively implementing the work of mobilizing and propagating civil servants, public employees and workers to strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, actively responding to and participating in movements launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Vietnam Civil Servants' Trade Union, contributing to building a professional, responsible, honest and effective working style and manner in performing public duties.

In particular, the Party's policy on building a diplomacy serving development, taking people as the center of service in trade union work, in which taking care of the lives of civil servants, public employees and workers is the central task of trade union work, has been gradually applied.

Activities to care for the material and spiritual life, visit and encourage union members and workers are increasingly practical, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, thereby helping union members feel secure in their work, overcome difficulties and complete their tasks. Cultural movements and mass activities are increasingly diverse, contributing to strengthening union members' cohesion.

In addition, the trade union activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been practically oriented towards the community, notably actively responding to the program to support flood relief, supporting the Covid-19 Prevention Fund, computer programs for students, the Vietnam Children's Support Fund, showing gratitude to martyrs, war invalids, and supporting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in Quang Ngai, Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, etc.

Through these meaningful humanitarian activities, we have contributed to widely educating the nation's fine traditions of mutual love and gratitude to union members and youth of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Continue to innovate in a modern direction

Minister Bui Thanh Son said that the world and domestic situation continues to be complicated and unpredictable; many great opportunities are opening up, but there are also many difficulties and challenges.

The diplomatic sector, together with the country, is entering a new stage of development. The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress has set out the basic task of foreign affairs as promoting the pioneering role in creating and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, mobilizing external resources to serve socio-economic development, and enhancing the country's international position and prestige.

In addition, the 13th Congress also proposed the policy of building a comprehensive and modern diplomacy with three pillars: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. These are strategic orientations and at the same time urgent requirements for the diplomatic sector.

The Minister emphasized that new contexts always pose new requirements and tasks, requiring constant innovation in thinking and action.

Basically agree with the direction and tasks set out by the Executive Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union for the next term and Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested: first , trade unions at all levels need to closely follow the policies and regulations of the Party and State, the political tasks and specific conditions of the Foreign Affairs sector, proactively, positively and practically contribute to building a clean, strong, comprehensive, professional and modern Foreign Affairs sector.

It is necessary to closely coordinate with the Party Committee of the Ministry and Party committees at all levels, to better promote the three-sided mechanism of the Party, the Government and the mass organizations, in which the trade union must truly be the bridge connecting Party committees at all levels with civil servants, public employees and workers, to ensure the successful implementation of the political tasks of the Foreign Affairs sector.

Second , continue to thoroughly grasp the service mindset in awareness and action, taking care of the lives of cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers as the central task of trade union work.

The Minister hopes that the Ministry's Trade Union and trade unions at all levels will promote collective intelligence, stimulate creativity, and actively contribute to advising and recommending to the Ministry on building regimes and policies, innovating working styles and methods towards professionalism, and improving working conditions and environments towards modernity so that trade union members in the diplomatic sector can continue to devote themselves to the cause of foreign affairs and national development.

Third , during his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh advised: "To organize and develop the great construction force of the working class, we need a strong Trade Union and good Trade Union cadres."

To improve the effectiveness and quality of trade union work, the Minister said that, in addition to the leadership attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, it is essential to build truly strong trade union organizations at all levels, with trade union officials who are truly impartial, dynamic, and creative for the common interests of union members.

Trade union organizations and union officials need to continue to seriously implement the principle of democratic centralism, maintain solidarity, and stay close to the grassroots, the lives, thoughts and aspirations of civil servants, public employees and workers.

The 29th Congress of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trade Union for the 2023-2028 term was a great success. The Congress elected the 29th Executive Committee of the Trade Union, consisting of 15 comrades. At the same time, the Congress also elected 7 official delegates to attend the 6th Congress of the Vietnam Civil Servants' Trade Union.
