Many researchers and social media users believe that even though they may not agree with his proposal to improve the writing system, laughing at him after his death is unethical and hurts the culture of healthy criticism.

Although his proposal was controversial and even "criticized" by many people, many people repeated and affirmed that this was the product of serious scientific work.

To his students and many who knew him, he was an optimistic person, a teacher who was always kind and considerate.

Another social media user wrote: “Farewell to the respected teacher who devoted his life to and loved Russia! He inspired generations of students with love for the Russian language, the country and the Russian people! ”.

A social media user named Phung Thuy wrote: “ Our people do not accept thoughts that are different from the crowd. Whether or not you support his “very different” way of thinking about reforming Vietnamese characters, you should still give him the ultimate respect .”

Reading the news about the passing of Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hien, many people still posted smiley faces and made rude comments. The online community believes that, no matter what, he was an Associate Professor, with good wishes, the fact that many people posted the “haha” laughing emoji shows that his personality is very poor.

On December 29, 2017, the proposal to improve the Vietnamese writing system was granted a copyright certificate by the Copyright Office.

On January 12, 2018, he continued to publish 3,254 six-eight verses of the Tale of Kieu in the "Vietnamese" language.

At the end of 2018, he announced a complete stop, not researching anything more about the Vietnamese language improvement set because the improvement set was completed very completely and clearly.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hien (1935 - 2025) was a teacher, linguistic researcher and educational administrator, former Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Foreign Languages. He was sent to study Russian in 1953 and successfully defended his PhD thesis at Moscow State University in 1973.

Throughout his career, he was dedicated to teaching and researching Vietnamese. He passed away on May 11, 2025 in Phu Tho, at the age of 90.
