After 5 days of adjusting the 10th grade exam wishes, according to the records from secondary schools, the rate of change in wishes is very small. This means that the competition rate for the 10th grade exam this year is almost the same as the initial announcement of the number of candidates registering for the 1st wish.

Few candidates adjust their wishes

The principal of a secondary school in District 3 said that last school year, out of nearly 300 ninth grade students, 45 registered their first choice to attend Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1), but this year, only a few students did. After 5 days of adjusting their choices, the students at the school still kept their original registration.

Explaining this, the principal said that currently, in addition to very thorough admissions consulting, students also have more opportunities to learn about high schools. They have time to compare, contrast, and even listen to information from teachers, learning environments, activities, and movements... as long as they see which school is suitable for them to register. "Some students choose high schools to study, but in recent years, seeing that the admission scores have decreased, the school is more focused on organizing movements, they find it unsuitable so they change direction. Or vice versa, there are also students who like to interact and like activities, and will choose schools with such strengths to register" - this person said.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Cao Duc Khoa, Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1), similar to previous years, very few students at the school changed their wishes compared to their initial registration, this year only a few students changed their wishes. "The reason is because the counseling process for the students was very carefully prepared, students correctly identified their own abilities and wishes to choose the right school" - Mr. Khoa said.

The odds fluctuate unexpectedly.

Not many candidates adjusted their preferences, meaning that the competition ratio for the 10th grade exam remained almost the same as the first announcement of candidates registering for their first preference. Thus, the 2025 10th grade entrance exam witnessed many surprises in the competition ratio, when many famous high schools in the city fell out of the top 10 schools with the highest competition ratio. Notably, among them was Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District) with a competition ratio of 1.1, ranked after Luong The Vinh High School (District 1), Marie Curie High School (District 3), Hung Vuong High School (District 5) ... which have long been in the top 2 in terms of average 10th grade benchmark scores over the years. In addition, many high schools in the suburbs rose with high competition ratios, these schools all had competition ratios above 1.0. Examples include Tan Thong Hoi High School (1/1.55), Nguyen Huu Tien High School (1/1.63), Thanh Loc High School (1/1.64)...

According to data released by the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training, this year, there are 22 high schools with over 1,000 applications. Of these, the highest is Mac Dinh Chi High School (District 6) with 1,661 applications and the lowest is Binh Hung Hoa High School with 1,006 applications.

In the top 10 with the highest competition ratio, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School leads with a ratio of up to 1/4.61. This ranking last year belonged to Nguyen Huu Huan High School (Thu Duc City). In 2025, this school ranked second, but the ratio dropped sharply from 1/3.22 (in 2024) to 1/2.39. Notably, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Ho Thi Bi, Gia Dinh is not in the top 10 list. This is surprising because for a long time, Nguyen Thuong Hien and Gia Dinh High Schools have always been in the top group.

On the other hand, Ngo Gia Tu High School ranked at the bottom of the table with a competition ratio of 1/0.25. Other schools in the top 5 from the bottom up are: Dien Hong Secondary and High School, Nguyen Van Linh, Phong Phu, Long Truong, Nguyen Van Tang, Nguyen Thi Dieu...

Thorough consultation, high success rate in 1st wish

At the famous Van Don Secondary School in District 4, Ms. Le Thi Thuy, the school's principal, said that there were no cases of students changing their 10th grade entrance exam preferences. According to Ms. Thuy, every year before the 10th grade entrance exam, the school conducts a very thorough consultation process for students to register their preferences, one student at a time.

"Each 9th grade student at the school will be advised by the homeroom teacher, along with math, literature, and English teachers based on their registered wishes. Each case will then be reported to the school principal, who will then explain the reasons. With such careful advice, almost no student changes their wishes and no student fails compared to their registered first wish," said Ms. Thuy.
