In response to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand, in the capital city of Wellington, the Vietnamese Embassy chaired and coordinated with the Vietnamese Students Association in Wellington (VSAW) to organize the event Vietnam Day 2025.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event held last weekend, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Phan Minh Giang highlighted the special significance of Vietnam Day 2025 as the event takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand, and also looks forward to important national holidays such as the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, national reunification and the 80th anniversary of National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Appreciating the efforts and contributions of VSAW in initiating and maintaining the annual organization of the Vietnam Day event, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang affirmed that Vietnam Day is an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in the capital Wellington in particular and in New Zealand in general to gather and connect, honor and spread the Vietnamese cultural identity in New Zealand, while contributing to enhancing mutual understanding and opening up cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

Also within the framework of Vietnam Day 2025, the Closing and Awarding Ceremony of the “Junction 50” Quiz Challenge took place to learn about 50 years of relations between the two countries. This contest was hosted by the Embassy of Vietnam in New Zealand, in coordination with the Vietnamese Students Association in New Zealand (VSANZ), attracting the participation of a large number of Vietnamese students in New Zealand.

Ambassador Phan Minh Giang presented the contest awards, expressing his recognition and appreciation for the continuous efforts to study and improve knowledge of generations of Vietnamese students in New Zealand during the half-century of developing relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand held a ceremony to announce the decision to commend VSAW and VSANZ groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in student activities and community work, contributing to encouraging and motivating the spirit of dedication of Vietnamese students in this Oceanian country.

Closing the ceremony, Vietnam Day 2025 with the theme "Welcoming the Dawn - The Rising Line" took the audience on a colorful cultural and artistic journey, recreating the image of a youthful, proud and rich-in-identity Vietnam, carrying youthful memories towards a new journey: a journey of faith, aspiration and the rise of the Vietnamese people in general and the Vietnamese community in New Zealand in particular.

The traditional and modern performances conveyed the message of the theme "Welcoming the Dawn - The Rising Line" about a peaceful , independent, self-reliant, innovative, fast-developing and sustainable Vietnam in the new era.

This year's program also features performances by international students, contributing to enriching the program and enhancing cultural exchange between student groups and communities from different countries in the capital city of Wellington.

On the sidelines of the activities, delegates and guests enjoyed traditional Vietnamese cuisine and visited a photo exhibition introducing 50 years of Vietnam-New Zealand relations as well as the land and people of Vietnam.
