GPT-5 Officially Launched

OpenAI has launched GPT-5, the new flagship AI model that will power the company's next generation of ChatGPT.

GPT-5 is the first so-called “unified” AI model, combining the powerful inference capabilities of the o-series with the response speed of the GPT series. The goal is to transform ChatGPT from a chatbot into an “AI agent” that can perform tasks on behalf of users such as creating applications, managing calendars, and writing research reports.

One of the notable upgrades of GPT-5 compared to its predecessor is that it will reduce “fabrication of information”. Specifically, according to OpenAI, the thinking rate of GPT-5 is only 4.8%, much lower than GPT-4o and o3.

ChatGPT users can use it for free.

Tesla stops using AI Dojo to train self-driving cars

Tesla has disbanded the Dojo supercomputer development team, which Elon Musk once hoped would be the key to fully autonomous driving technology.

Musk previously claimed that Dojo would process massive amounts of video data for full self-driving. However, starting in August 2024, he began promoting Cortex, a new AI supercluster at Tesla’s Austin headquarters.

Tesla will now increasingly use chips from Nvidia, AMD, and Samsung. The $16.5 billion deal with Samsung will give Tesla AI6 chips for its self-driving cars and Optimus robots.

Tesla's board proposes $29 billion pay package to keep Elon Musk focused on Tesla instead of other companies like xAI.

Huawei opens Ascend chip software ecosystem

Huawei officially announced the complete open source software ecosystem for Ascend chips, called CANN (Compute Architecture for Neural Networks).

CANN bridges the gap between high-level AI training frameworks and Ascend chip hardware, allowing users to harness computing power without dealing with complex hardware details.

Unlike Nvidia's CUDA (closed ecosystem), Huawei chooses an open source approach to promote community development and innovation. After 7 years of development, CANN has achieved breakthroughs in computing optimization, communication efficiency, and memory management.

Huawei has open sourced its HarmonyOS operating system and MindSpore AI framework. Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun has said that computing power is at the core of the company's AI strategy.
