Electricity consumption at noon on June 2 exceeded the peak, Northern Power Corporation called on customers to save electricity

According to the Northern Power Corporation, at 1:15 p.m. on June 2, 2025, the electricity consumption capacity in 27 provinces/cities in the Northern region managed by the Corporation (from Ha Tinh and beyond, excluding Hanoi) reached 17,400 MW, exceeding the highest peak in 2024 (recorded at 10:00 p.m. on August 10, 2024 was 17,300 MW), an increase of 0.578% over the previous year. In Phu Tho province alone, the electricity consumption capacity in the whole province on June 2, 2025 reached 818.5 MW, exceeding the highest peak in 2024 (recorded at 2:00 p.m. on June 19, 2024 was 752.9 MW), an increase of 12.2% over the same period in the first 6 months of 2024.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on June 2, 2025, the Northern region is experiencing the most severe heat wave since the beginning of summer. The severe heat combined with low humidity of only 40-45% has caused the demand for electricity to skyrocket, especially for cooling equipment. The temperature on June 2 is similar to June 1, however, because June 1 is a holiday, the consumption mainly comes from daily life and services. On June 2, entering the first working day of the week, the entire production sector and offices resumed operations, causing the total electricity consumption to increase dramatically.

This is the first widespread heat wave in 2025 and it is forecasted that this summer there will be many more severe heat waves. Currently, EVNNPC is focusing on ensuring safe and stable power supply for more than 11 million customers. However, the risk of local overload in residential and urban areas - especially during peak hours - still exists if there is no joint effort to save electricity from people and businesses. The Northern Power Corporation recommends: Customers need to use electricity safely, economically and effectively, especially during peak hours at noon (13:00 - 15:00) and in the evening (20:00 - 23:00). Use air conditioning reasonably, set the temperature at 27°C or higher, combine with a fan and close the room door to increase cooling efficiency. Limit the use of many high-capacity electrical appliances at the same time to avoid the risk of overload, incidents, and fires in households.
