"The opening of the Flag Tower is part of the strategy to preserve and promote the heritage values ​​of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic site. After receiving the handover of this area from the Ministry of National Defense, the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center will conduct tours connecting the Flag Tower to other relics of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, contributing to preserving and introducing the historical and cultural values ​​of the capital," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang. The Director of the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center also said that in the coming time, a lighting system will be installed in the Hanoi Flag Tower area to serve tourists. The opening of the Flag Tower also gives visitors another option to visit when coming to Hanoi. The Hanoi Flag Tower, also known as the Hanoi Ky Dai, is located on Dien Bien Phu Street (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi). The Flag Tower is a tower-shaped structure built at the same time as the Hanoi Citadel under the Nguyen Dynasty (started in 1805, completed in 1812).

Hanoi Flag Tower was recognized as a national monument in 1989.
The flagpole is 33 m high from the base, more than 40 m including the steel flagpole. This structure is built in a three-story square style. The Hanoi flagpole was built on the southern part of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. This is the reference point, marking the beginning at the southern end of the central axis of the citadel, from here following the "fishing road", through Doan Mon and then to the most important point, the central point of the Imperial Citadel, Kinh Thien Palace.
