The teachers will be responsible for teaching Vietnamese at all levels at the Laos-Vietnam Friendship High School (Kaysone Phomvihane City, Savannakhet Province), which is mainly for overseas Vietnamese children. During their time in Laos, the Vietnamese teachers are expected to actively organize many cultural and artistic activities in collaboration with the Vietnamese Consulate General in Savannakhet.
For 5 years, from 2007 to 2022, Quang Tri province has maintained the sending of volunteer teachers to Laos to teach Vietnamese. After 3 years, the teachers returned and were considered for recruitment into the education sector. However, in some cases, volunteer teachers returned and encountered difficulties in receiving them due to policy changes. Therefore, pre-recruitment and secondment were aimed at ensuring the rights of these teachers. After the COVID-19 pandemic, this activity was interrupted for 2 consecutive school years, from 2023 to 2025.
According to Director of the Quang Tri Department of Education and Training Le Thi Huong, the Lao side proposed to send 8 teachers, but this time Quang Tri could only send 4 people. The Vietnamese Association of Savannakhet Province also wants to set a goal of training high-quality students, capable of studying well at universities and vocational schools in Vietnam after graduation.
The Laos-Vietnam Friendship High School in Savannakhet Province was formerly Lac Hong Secondary School, then renamed Thong Nhat Secondary School. In 2019, the school was newly built with a total cost of 2.2 million USD, of which the Vietnamese Government supported 2 million USD and the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Savannakhet Province contributed 200 thousand USD. Every year, the school trains nearly 850 students from grades 1 to 12, mainly children of overseas Vietnamese living and working in Savannakhet Province.
In addition to the training program of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, the Laos - Vietnam Friendship High School also focuses on teaching Vietnamese language and culture, with active sponsorship from the Lao Overseas Vietnamese Association.
