On the morning of May 17, in the sacred and solemn space at Tam Chuc Pagoda (Kim Bang town, Ha Nam province), tens of thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists and people from all over the province and city gathered here to witness a special event: the procession and enshrinement of the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni - a national treasure of India.
At around 10am, the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni were carried from Quan Su Pagoda ( Hanoi ) to Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam).
Before that, the procession moved along National Highway 1A to the South, through the Liem Tuyen intersection, Phu Ly city (Ha Nam), starting the journey through a series of main roads in the inner city.
The procession of Buddha's relics took place in a solemn and emotional atmosphere.
Leaders of Ha Nam province and organizing committee carry the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni to Tam Chuc pagoda.
The Buddha's relics will be carried around Tam Chuc Lake - one of the prominent sights of this spiritual tourist area - before entering the Tam Quan Noi area.
From the road to Tam Chuc Pagoda, it was packed with people, monks, Buddhists and tourists from all over the world attending the special spiritual event.
“We stayed overnight at a friend’s house nearby so we could go to the temple early this morning. I am a Buddhist and have been on pilgrimages to many places, but I have never been as moved as I was this time,” said Nguyen Trang (from Ha Nam).
"Hearing the news that the Buddha's relics were brought here, I was very moved. All my life I have chanted Buddha's name, hoping to see the relics with my own eyes. Now that I have the opportunity, I must go immediately. Even if I have to jostle and walk far, I still feel happy in my heart," said Ms. Pham Thi Lan (in Phu Ly City, Ha Nam).
Around 11am, the relic installation ceremony was solemnly held at Tam The Temple.
As planned, Tam Chuc Pagoda will officially open for free for people and Buddhists to come and worship the relics from 3pm on May 17 to 12pm on May 20. On May 18 and 19, the opening hours will last from 5:30am to 10pm.
Before being enshrined at Tam Chuc Pagoda, Buddha's relics were enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda (HCMC) from May 2-8, at Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh) from May 8-13 and at Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi) from May 13-16.
