The breathless chase to "G hour", has candidate Kamala Harris voted?

In less than 48 hours, the world will know who will become the 47th president of the United States. But until then, no one can say for sure, not even the pre-election polls.

As the November 5 election day (US time) approaches, the two presidential candidates, Democratic Party's Kamala Harris and Republican Party's Donald Trump, are increasingly locked in a fierce pursuit in public opinion polls.

The thrilling chase

On November 3, NBC News announced the results of the final national poll on the 2024 US presidential campaign, showing that Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump are in a tight race.

Specifically, the poll was conducted from October 30 to November 2 on 1,000 registered voters (with a margin of error of 3.1%). Both candidates received 49% support and only 2% of voters were still undecided.

NBC noted that support for Vice President Harris is based on "increasing Democratic enthusiasm." She leads Mr. Trump by 20 points on the issue of abortion and has an advantage in caring more about the middle class.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump is supported by “two-thirds of voters who believe the country is going in the wrong direction, and they rate Mr. Trump's presidency positively — especially when compared to President Joe Biden's current record — on the economy and cost of living.”

Meanwhile, data released by FiveThrityEight on November 3 (local time) showed that Ms. Harris was leading Mr. Trump by only 1% in national opinion polls.

Experts say that polls may not fully reflect voters' support for the two candidates, as evidenced by the fact that in the 2016 and 2020 elections, Mr. Trump was often rated lower than his opponents in polls but had better performances in reality.

However, some experts from CNN and the New York Times believe that Ms. Harris herself may be underrated in this year's election, partly due to the growth of Mr. Trump's supporters, and partly because pollsters themselves have difficulty locating voters who support Ms. Harris.

Efforts to win every vote

As the race to the White House continues to be “inconclusive” in opinion polls, the campaigns of former President Trump and Vice President Harris are stepping up their campaigning and competing for voter support.

Former US President Donald Trump continued to assert baseless allegations of election fraud in battleground states in the race for the White House in a 90-minute speech at a campaign rally in Lititz, Pennsylvania on November 3.

He also recalled the attempted assassination of himself in July in Butler, and expressed skepticism about the media, which he often accuses of spreading “fake news.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris attended a church in Detroit, Michigan, to call for “a new chapter in our history together,” stressing that now is the time for America to move past efforts to deepen division and sow hatred and focus on building a better future.

The Democratic candidate criticized Mr. Trump's allegations of election fraud as an attempt to make voters feel "their votes will be meaningless." She asserted that the systems organizing the 2024 election are trustworthy, while emphasizing that the people themselves will decide the election's outcome.

Also on November 3, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said she mailed a ballot to her home state of California to vote for herself.

Harris' campaign team said the Vice President wants to set an example for voters to continue to take advantage of different forms of voting.

Currently, more than 77.3 million voters have voted before Election Day (November 5), reaching about more than 50% of the total number of voters in the 2020 presidential election.
