The essay writing contest on the salt-making profession, themed "A Hundred Years of Salt Making - A Lifetime," was organized to serve a national event. Therefore, the Provincial Union of Arts and Culture Associations proactively launched the contest widely, collaborating with associations in the Mekong Delta and extending the initiative to associations nationwide. Considering that this was a narrow and relatively new topic, the Provincial Union of Arts and Culture Associations also broadened the scope to include both journalistic and literary essays.

Yes! This is a narrow and new topic. Out of the 63 provinces and cities nationwide, only a few localities have salt-making as a profession, so not every journalist or artist understands or can write about salt production. That's why the number of entries was not large; the competition only received 40 submissions.

Despite the small number of entries, the competition accomplished its purpose. Out of 40 submissions, 30 were of good quality. These works compiled typical facts that shaped the history of Vietnam's salt industry. By approaching them, we gain a systematic and fundamental understanding of the history of salt production in Vietnam.
