Help each other reduce poverty
Recently, the Association of War Veterans in Tan Hoa commune, Tan Thanh district has implemented many practical models to support members in economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction and building advanced new-style rural communes in the locality.
Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Tan Hoa Commune - Nguyen Thanh Nam said: "In 2019, the whole commune had 4 poor households and 8 near-poor households. Most of the members are elderly, have no land for production, and their lives mainly depend on the income from working for hire, which is quite precarious."
Since then, in 2019, the Association has implemented the 10+1, 5+1 model to 6/6 hamlet branches. Each rich and well-off member contributed 2 million VND; at the same time, the Association mobilized local and foreign benefactors to provide additional support. Resources to support members in difficult circumstances such as cash, plants, seeds, fertilizers and means of production are all interest-free for 4 years to develop the economy. After 5 years, the Association mobilized 570 million VND, supporting 11 members to escape poverty.
Handing over the house of Comradeship to veteran Huynh Thanh Long (Tay Nam hamlet, Tan Hoa commune, Tan Thanh district)
Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong (Dong Bac Hamlet, Tan Hoa Commune, Tan Thanh District) shared: “Previously, my family only had 2 hectares of rice fields, with unstable income. After receiving 30 million VND in support from the Veterans Association, I dug a pond to raise snakehead fish and raised 500 ducks. During the fishing season, I released small snakehead fish or miscellaneous fish that could not be sold into the pond as fish food. When the rice started to grow, the ducks also grew; when the rice was harvested, the ducks could also be sold. In the first year, I made a profit of about 40 million VND.”
In 2020, the Association established the Fattening Cow Club with 10 members, with an initial capital of 910 million VND, including 10 fattening cows and 12 breeding cows. Supported by the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office and the District Veterans Association with 390 million VND, the model helps 3 members borrow interest-free capital for 3 years. To date, the club's total herd of cows has increased to 32, bringing in a profit of more than 235 million VND for participating members.
In addition, from 2019 to present, the Association has built 5 gratitude houses, 4 solidarity houses ; actively participated in social security activities with a total contribution of more than 105 million VND. In addition, on the occasion of holidays and Tet, the Association organized visits and gave gifts to 175 members with a total cost of more than 270 million VND. Thereby, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual support of the Veterans Association in developing the household economy and building an increasingly prosperous homeland.
Promote propaganda to contribute to building new rural areas
Joining hands with the Party Committee, government and people to build advanced and exemplary new rural areas, the Association of War Veterans in Binh Tam commune, Tan An city actively propagates and mobilizes students and people to participate in building new rural areas, maintain security and order, protect the environment andeducate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions.
In 2024, the Association organized more than 50 propaganda sessions with the participation of more than 450 members. The content focused on the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws such as digital transformation, waste classification at source, traffic safety, crime prevention , etc. The Association also proactively grasped the thoughts of members, promptly reflected and coordinated to resolve arising incidents, preventing "hot spots" and complicated complaints.
The Veterans Association of Binh Tam Commune, Tan An City, mobilized people to register for garbage collection and build garbage treatment pits at their households.
In addition, the Association coordinates in propagating the Law on Military Service, mobilizing young people to join the army ; participate in the militia, reserve forces and self-managed security and order groups at the grassroots level. In addition, the Association also actively propagates disease prevention and control, raising awareness of biosafety in livestock farming.
Together with the Youth Union, the Association organizes traditional education activities, contributing to building a young generation that lives responsibly and has revolutionary ideals. The whole commune currently has 5 effective environmental clubs, regularly propagating to people not to litter, not to use sound beyond the prescribed hours, contributing to preserving the rural landscape.
Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Binh Tam Commune - Tran Ngoc Tam said: "In the coming time, the Association will step up propaganda and mobilize members and people to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; actively participate in implementing the grassroots democracy regulations, strictly comply with the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, and raise awareness of environmental sanitation in the locality. In addition, the Association will actively participate in building green, clean, and beautiful landscapes, planting and caring for trees on the roads, organizing environmental sanitation, mobilizing people to register for garbage collection, building waste treatment pits at households, ...".
With a sense of responsibility and exemplary behavior, all levels of the Veterans Association have practical and effective work, contributing to improving the lives of veterans and spreading the spirit of solidarity in the community, joining hands to build an increasingly developed, civilized and modern homeland./.
