In the North, the price of live pigs remained unchanged; provinces and cities maintained the price from 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, with Bac Giang being the highest in the region at 69,000 VND/kg.
High pig prices make pork expensive for consumers
Similarly, in the North Central region, the lowest price of live pigs is in Ha Tinh at 67,000 VND/kg, while the remaining localities maintain prices from 68,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. In the region from Binh Dinh to the South and the Central Highlands, the price of live pigs is from 70,000 - 72,000 VND/kg, with Binh Thuan being the highest at 73,000 VND/kg.
In the South, the price of live pigs in Hau Giang increased by VND1,000 to VND74,000/kg. The highest price of live pigs at VND75,000/kg was maintained in Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre and An Giang . The remaining localities ranged from VND73,000 to VND74,000/kg.
The average price of live pigs nationwide is 70,500 VND/kg. Compared to other countries in the region, Vietnam's live pig price is 15,000 - 17,000 VND/kg higher and has been maintained for the past 5 months. While many industry experts believe that it is due to a local shortage of supply, a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that pig and poultry farming continues to develop stably, and diseases are under control. It is estimated that by the end of April 2025, the country's pig herd will increase by 3% compared to the same period last year, and the poultry herd will increase by 3.5%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in addition to stable livestock production, the price of imported animal feed ingredients has also decreased. Specifically, the average price of imported soybeans in the first 4 months of 2025 is estimated at 453.3 USD/ton, down 15.2% compared to the same period in 2024. In addition, the average price of imported wheat is 264.3 USD/ton, down 4.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
While input materials have decreased and livestock production has developed steadily, the price of pork to consumers is generally between VND150,000 and VND200,000 per kilogram. This not only affects the wallets of the majority of people but also negatively impacts the market and consumption in general./.
