The good math student

and the talent of telling stories about Uncle Ho

If anyone has ever watched the final round of the recent provincial contest "We tell stories about Uncle Ho", they will surely be deeply impressed with the story "The cry of a child and the lullaby of a mother" performed by Ho Phuong Phuong (class 7A, Nghia Dan town Secondary School).

With an emotional and passionate voice, Phuong took the audience back to the difficult childhood years of Uncle Ho. That was the time when Nguyen Sinh Sac - Uncle Ho's father - was sent to supervise the provincial examination in Thanh Hoa , bringing along his eldest son, Nguyen Sinh Khiem. Staying in Hue, only Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan was left to take care of her children alone in a difficult and deprived situation.

Although he was still very young, Nguyen Sinh Cung was always close to his mother, helping to look after his younger brother, sharing his mother's hardships. Then the pain came: On a cold winter night, Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan passed away from a serious illness. Uncle Ho, who was only 11 years old at the time, suppressed his grief, and together with the neighbors, arranged the funeral for his mother and took care of his younger brother.

With complete immersion, Ho Phuong Phuong successfully portrayed the painful moments of losing the most beloved person of the boy Nguyen Sinh Cung. The whole hall was silent, many eyes filled with tears following each story.

The audience seemed to burst into emotion when the story reached the moment when Uncle Ho's younger brother gradually weakened due to the lack of sweet milk from his mother, and then breathed his last breath in the arms of his little brother. The choked cry and the loss were imprinted in Uncle Ho's memory, and throughout his life, Uncle Ho always had deep love for the unfortunate and the orphaned children.

The story not only recreates the difficult days of Uncle Ho but also kindles in the hearts of today's youth love, gratitude and awareness of family values - the simple happiness that exists.

Phuong shared that the image of the boy Nguyen Sinh Cung running back and forth, taking care of his sick mother and his younger siblings, made her choked with emotion. Through the story, she learned how to love and be more filial to her parents and realized that despite facing countless difficulties, the boy Cung always strived to rise up, to later become a great leader of the nation.

Notably, Ho Phuong Phuong not only has an inspiring voice but also possesses impressive academic achievements. In the 2023-2024 school year, she won the third prize in the Math Olympiad at the district level and won the bronze prize in the TIMO Math competition at the national level.

She said that many people wondered why a student who loves natural science could be so deeply absorbed in telling emotional stories. For her, that is not a contradiction. Thanks to her love for Mathematics - a subject that requires precision and logic, she learned to look deeply into situations and feel every detail. When talking about Uncle Ho, the small details become meaningful pieces, painting a vivid picture of the love and human values that Uncle left behind.

In addition, Phuong has also been an excellent student for many years, winning many district and provincial awards in the subjects of Young Informatics and Vietnamese. Before winning the first prize at the provincial level, she also won the first prize at the district level in the secondary school section in this competition.

Love Uncle Ho more through stories

A typical factor in the Primary school is Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, a 5B student at Le Mao Primary School (Vinh City). The story "Uncle Ho visits the poor" performed by her left a deep impression.

With a gentle and warm voice, Kim Ngan takes the listener back to the emotional moment of the New Year's Eve of the Year of the Tiger (1962), when Uncle Ho visited the family of Ms. Tin - a widowed mother raising 3 young children in a dilapidated house on Ly Thai To Street, Hanoi. Despite the difficult life, Ms. Tin still worked hard, carrying water and chopping firewood to earn money to send her children to school. Even on New Year's Eve, she still had to go to work to have some rice for the New Year's Eve meal.

When Uncle Ho entered, Ms. Tin was startled, the shoulder pole fell, the two iron buckets hit the ground with a clanging sound. The children recognized Uncle Ho, quickly ran over and shouted: "Uncle Ho, Uncle Ho!" and then clung to him. After a moment of surprise, Ms. Tin hugged Uncle Ho and choked with tears. The words: "People like me never expected Uncle Ho to visit" moved the whole hall because of the sincerity and simplicity of a poor mother.

Ngan recounted these details skillfully and subtly. Not simply describing, she brought the listener into the character's state of mind, to clearly feel the emotion and gratitude of Ms. Tin. Uncle Ho's saying: "If I don't visit people like you and your mother, who else will I visit?" resonated like a simple but profound message, expressing Uncle Ho's great responsibility and special affection for the people.
