Da Nang expects to break through the global startup ecosystem rankings

On May 12, at the award ceremony for science, technology (S&T) and innovative startups (ICT) activities in Da Nang City, Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that 2024 is the fourth consecutive year that Da Nang has been honored by the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association as an "Attractive City for Innovative Startups"; and was awarded the title "Outstanding Locality for Building a Startup Ecosystem" by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Dr. Le Duc Vien - Director of Da Nang Department of Science and Technology spoke at the ceremony.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Da Nang City has specific action programs and plans to implement the spirit clearly defined in Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo: "Developing science and technology, innovation and digital transformation is one of the strategic breakthroughs, the main driving force for rapid and sustainable development of the country in the new era".

In 2024, Da Nang continued to record very encouraging results in science and technology and innovation activities. Specifically, 3 inventions and 2 useful solutions were granted protection certificates; 19 works won science and technology awards from ministries, branches and countries; 49 scientific articles were published in prestigious international journals, and 9 groups and 9 outstanding individuals with many contributions to start-up activities were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi hopes that experts and scientists will continue to research, promote the application of science and technology into practice, gradually commercialize research results, and link research results with innovative start-up activities to contribute to building Da Nang into one of the major socio-economic centers of the country and Southeast Asia with the role of a center for start-ups and innovation in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 43-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that according to the assessment and ranking results of the Ministry of Science and Technology on the Local Innovation Index, in 2023 - 2024, Da Nang City is in the top of the country and always leads the North Central and Central Coast regions. In 2024, Vietnam's innovative startup ecosystem ranked 56th in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index of Startup Blink.

“Notably, Da Nang is for the first time in the top 1,000 global cities for startup ecosystems according to the ranking of the StartupBlink Center for Research and Mapping the Global Startup Ecosystem,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee, Chairwoman of the Startup Network Coordinating Council, Chairwoman of the Science, Technology and Innovation Startup Council of Da Nang City emphasized.

According to Dr. Le Duc Vien - Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang, up to now, it can be said that on the national science and technology map and the national innovation startup map, Da Nang City has made steady progress and a positive position. He also said that according to the plan, on May 20, StartupBlink will officially announce the global startup ecosystem rankings.

“With the efforts of all organizations and individuals who have made positive contributions to the city's science, technology and innovation activities over the past years and especially in 2024, we expect and expect Da Nang to have good results and will be a breakthrough development in the global startup ecosystem rankings in 2025,” said Dr. Le Duc Vien.
