The 13th Southeast Asian School Games will take place at the end of May 2024.

ASEAN School Games 13 takes place in Da Nang city from May 29 to June 9, 2024.

The ASEAN Schools Games will officially take place from May 29 to June 9 in Da Nang city. The Games will have the participation of more than 1,300 athletes and coaches from 10 national sports delegations including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and host country Vietnam. This is the second time Vietnam has hosted this event, the previous time being in 2013.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Kim Chi said that the Southeast Asian School Sports Festival is the largest school sports event in Southeast Asia, which is of great interest to the Governments and people of ASEAN countries. Organizing the Southeast Asian School Sports Festival is both a right and an obligation and responsibility of member countries, and an opportunity to comprehensively assess the current status of physical education and school sports activities in countries in the Southeast Asian region.

Hosting the 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival in Vietnam is not only of great significance for the development of education and sports, but also has political, cultural, social, diplomatic and tourism significance, contributing to strengthening solidarity and friendship; understanding between the Vietnamese people and the people of ASEAN countries; contributing to promoting and introducing the cultural values of Vietnam to other countries, the image of Vietnam as safe, friendly, peaceful, hospitable, integrated and developed.

Athletes will compete in 06 sports including: swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, pencak silat, vovinam with a total of 107 events. According to the plan, the events will take place at 06 locations in Da Nang city including: Tien Son Sports Palace, Son Tra District Cultural - Sports Center, National Defense Sports - Fitness Center 3, Hoa Xuan athletics field, martial arts gymnasium and city swimming - diving pool.

"With the message "Connecting and Shining", the 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival is not only a place to honor sports talents but also promotes the connection of students from countries in the region, uniting for a young generation of Southeast Asian integration and development", Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Kim Chi emphasized.

The mascot of the Congress is the red-shanked douc langur, a rare animal in the Vietnam Red Book, classified as "endangered" by the World Conservation Organization as well as Vietnam. Through the image of this mascot, the 13th ASG conveys the message of environmental protection to each student in particular and the community in general.

First held in 2009, the Southeast Asian School Games is the largest sports festival for secondary school students in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, aiming to promote solidarity among ASEAN countries through school sports activities, creating opportunities for athletes to compete and exchange experiences to improve the quality of physical education for the spirit of sportsmanship.
