According to Giac Ngo Online , on August 4, the Buddhist Association of China and the International Organizing Committee for the United Nations Day of Vesak (ICDV) held their first meeting in Beijing.
This session aims to discuss plans to hold the 2026 United Nations Day of Vesak in China.
Most Venerable Phra Brahmapundit - President of the International Organizing Committee of the United Nations Day of Vesak, Most Venerable Thich Dien Giac - President of the Chinese Buddhist Association chaired the meeting.
Also attending were the permanent members of the United Nations Vesak International Organizing Committee and Buddhist leaders of the host country.
Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien - Vice President, General Secretary of the Executive Council, member of the International Organizing Committee of the United Nations Vesak Day - attended the online meeting from Hanoi .
The 2026 United Nations Vesak Festival in China is expected to take place from May 26 to 28, 2026 (April 10 to 12 of the lunar calendar).

Currently, the Chinese Buddhist Association and ICDV are urgently surveying a suitable location to ensure the success of the ceremony.
According to the conference results, there are about 61 countries and territories with 500 international delegates and Buddhist scholars and researchers attending the ceremony.
Previously, the Chinese Buddhist Association received the hosting rights from the representative of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, confirmed in the Ho Chi Minh City 2025 Declaration, and officially received the flag to host this international event at the closing ceremony of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.
The organizing committee chose the main theme of the 2026 United Nations Day of Vesak in China as: "Buddhist wisdom promotes global sustainable development and builds a shared future for humanity".
The four sub-topics include:
- Applying Buddhist wisdom for human happiness
- Buddhism's contribution to common prosperity
- Buddhist practice promotes green ecology and protects the planet
- Buddhist wisdom builds partnerships for sustainable global peace
