Dam Gia garment factory creates jobs for many local people. |
Changing livelihoods right in the homeland
Ms. Ban Thi Mai, a Dao ethnic, from Tan Son village, still remembers the years when she had to leave her hometown to work as a factory worker. The food in the rented room was frugal, she missed her children and her home so much that she couldn’t sleep. “Now there is a sewing workshop right near her house, she can work and take care of her children at the same time. She can avoid being away from home,” she said, then continued to check each product before delivering it to the main facility. With an income of more than 7 million VND/month and a steady job, Ms. Mai was assigned to be a “foreman”, guiding new sisters in the profession.
Dam Gia Garment Factory in Tan Son Village has been in operation since early 2025 and has become a stable workplace for dozens of poor women and ethnic minorities. Ms. Dinh Thi Sen, formerly a poor household, now knows how to sew, operate machines, and has a full salary and insurance. “I only study at the factory, I can’t go anywhere else. I’m very lucky to be hired,” she shared.
From garment factories, wood workshops, small services… Dai Son commune is forming a local labor force, helping people stabilize their lives without having to leave their hometown to find a living.

Mr. Nguyen Van Luc with his French pigeon farming model brings high economic efficiency. |
Not only garment, Dai Son also has many economic models that bring in a good income. A typical example is the French pigeon raising model of Mr. Nguyen Van Luc (born in 1990) in Moi village. After working as a worker in Hai Duong province, Mr. Luc decided to return to his hometown to raise chickens, and since 2018 he has switched to raising French pigeons. Starting with a few dozen pairs, now he has 1,800 pairs of parent pigeons, selling 300 - 500 birds per week, with a revenue of 250 - 300 million VND/year. The barn has been renovated to be airy and clean, with fans and a synchronous feeding system. Mr. Luc shared: "Being a worker is hard work but not much extra. Returning to the countryside allows me to control my time and be closer to my wife and children."
In addition, there are facilities for processing planted forest wood, producing unburnt bricks, household wooden furniture, transportation services, and grocery stores that earn from several hundred million to several billion VND each year. Many households have boldly applied new techniques, linked markets, and built the OCOP brand.
In addition to household economy , Dai Son also creates a new direction from community tourism associated with indigenous culture. Dong Cao mountain area - a place likened to "Miniature Mau Son" - is now an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Here, many households invest in Homestay, tent rental services, and trekking organization.
While preparing a grill for a group of young guests from Hanoi , Mr. Luu Quoc Tho, owner of Quoc Tho Homestay, recalled the first days when he opened the homestay with only a few small rooms, cooking and welcoming guests himself. Now he has expanded the accommodation area, serving 20-30 guests. “The guests like the most to watch the sunrise on Dong Cao peak and eat grilled chicken that I make. Having a job right in my hometown, I want to do it even better,” he said.
Not only doing tourism, the people also work with the government to preserve unique values such as: Soong hao singing, the Dao people's harvest festival, and folk games. These activities have become "specialties" in the Dong Cao - Hang Vua tour.
Comrade Giap Trung Kien, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "We identify community tourism as an important direction to create sustainable livelihoods. People are the main subjects, the government and businesses support in planning, infrastructure, and skills training. The goal is not only to increase income but also to preserve the environment and cultural identity."

Commerce and services in Dai Son commune are gradually developing, helping people get rich in their homeland. |
According to statistics from the People's Committee of Son commune, in the period of 2020 - 2025, the value of industrial and handicraft production of the commune reached more than 377 billion VND; trade and services reached 226.1 billion VND. This is an important foundation for changing people's production thinking.
For long-term economic development, Dai Son prioritizes infrastructure investment. The completed commune central market has become a bustling trading point. Routes such as Suoi Xa - Viet Trong, Tan Son - Trung Son, Viet Tien - Suoi Hau - Vinh An, Dong Muong - Dong Cao... have been expanded and hardened. Up to now, 88.4% of commune roads and 82% of village roads have been concreted, convenient for transporting goods and tourism. Thanks to that, transportation, telecommunications, Internet, and electronic payment services have developed strongly, helping people access the market faster. Young people are encouraged to participate in vocational training, production households are supported with preferential loans, and new businesses are supported with 3 million VND to start up.
The commune government is also reviewing and adjusting the plan for the development of the industry and trade sector in the period 2025 - 2030 in the area, while at the same time managing business establishments well to ensure environmental hygiene and food safety. These practical solutions have helped people's lives change significantly, the poverty rate has decreased sharply over the years; houses are spacious; 100% of alleys are bright - green - clean; cultural works are regularly renovated.
In order to stimulate internal strength, encourage people to develop the local economy, and confidently do business on their homeland, in the coming time, the Party Committee and the government of Dai Son commune will focus on attracting investment in potential fields such as wood processing, mechanics, construction materials, transportation, trade and services. Linking forest development with eco-tourism, forest experience, community tourism, contributing to promoting the local image. At the same time, strictly and transparently manage the budget, maximize the mobilization of social resources in infrastructure construction, and implement the motto "State and People work together".
Today, Dai Son has not only changed in its landscape but also in the thinking of its people. From relying only on fields and forests, they have boldly sought jobs, opened new services, and approached new techniques. Those who had to leave their hometowns now have stable jobs, have a good income, and are confident in building their careers right in their homeland.
It can be affirmed that when the government accompanies, infrastructure opens the way and people are given opportunities, the local economy can completely become a sustainable choice. “Leaving the countryside but not leaving the homeland” is not just a slogan, but has become a reality in every house and every road in the Dai Son highlands.
