According to the An Giang Hydrometeorological Station, from the second half of April to July 2025, there is a possibility of 3-4 storms and tropical depressions appearing in the East Sea. The total rainfall during this period is also approximately equal to and higher than the average of many years (TBNN) by about 5-15%. Regarding the hydrological situation, from the end of June 2025, the flow of the Mekong River to the headwaters of the Cuu Long River tends to increase slowly and will increase rapidly in early August; the total flow from August to October 2025 is likely to be approximately equal to and higher than the TBNN by 5-10%.

In order to be proactive in dyke protection, flood and storm prevention, and response to unusual weather developments, the Provincial People's Committee requests members of the Steering Committee for Climate Change Response - Natural Disaster Prevention and Civil Defense (hereinafter referred to as the Provincial Steering Committee), People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities to focus on perfecting and assigning specific responsibilities to specialized management agencies, local authorities at all levels, and forces in the area according to the motto "clear people, clear work, clear responsibilities, clear products, clear completion time". At the same time, it is necessary to ensure unified, consistent direction, close, effective and continuous coordination, leaving no "gaps" in the context of reorganizing the local government apparatus. Balance the allocated budget and other legal sources to supplement technical means and equipment to improve the capacity of direction, operation, and response in performing the task of protecting the safety of dykes and irrigation works.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment proactively monitors, forecasts, and warns of landslides on riverbanks, canals, and streams to promptly inform authorities, localities, and people for proactive response. Directs the An Giang Irrigation Sub-Department to organize 24/7 duty to closely monitor the situation and developments of natural disasters, advises the Head of the Provincial Steering Committee to direct departments, branches, and People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities to promptly deploy work to prevent, combat, and overcome the consequences of natural disasters according to their authority.

In addition, it is necessary to coordinate with localities to inspect and carefully evaluate the current status of the dike and irrigation system to detect damage and adverse factors that may threaten the safety of the works. Take the lead, together with relevant agencies and units, to guide and inspect the implementation of work to ensure the safety of dike and irrigation works in the area; summarize the results of inspection and assessment of the safety of dike and irrigation works before the rainy and flood season and report to superiors according to regulations.

The Provincial Military Command needs to direct the organization of drills on dike protection plans and emergency response plans for reservoirs. Check the preparation of materials, forces, means, techniques, command and communication to promptly fill in any shortcomings and problems. Provide professional training for forces participating in dike protection and emergency response to construction incidents, especially military forces stationed in the area.

In addition, the Provincial People's Committee requested An Giang Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to implement and direct communes, wards and towns to closely monitor the developments of rain, floods and storms. Prepare forces, materials and means to deploy dike protection plans, protect key weak points of dikes according to the "4 on-site" motto when situations occur. For the People's Committees at the commune level, it is necessary to arrange forces with sufficient professional capacity to manage and operate the works according to regulations. For the operation of reservoirs, it is necessary to strictly follow the approved operating procedures, review and have solutions to handle flow blockages when operating flood discharge. Continue to review and guide organizations, households and individuals to reinforce, brace and repair houses, warehouses, factories, enterprises and public works to increase their stability. Inspect signs, billboards, and billboards that are potentially unsafe within the scope of management, to prevent rain, storms, and tornadoes from causing damage to life and property of the State and people.

At the same time, strengthen information, propaganda, and dissemination of policies and laws on dykes, natural disaster prevention, and irrigation. Information on developments and forecasts of natural disasters, skills to respond to types of natural disasters to raise people's awareness; improve management efficiency, exploitation, and ensure safety of works to help reduce damage caused by natural disasters, especially human damage. Departments, branches, and units that are members of the Provincial Steering Committee must, according to their functions and tasks, proactively coordinate with the People's Committees at the district and commune levels to deploy response when natural disasters affect production, daily life, and people's lives...

Since the beginning of the year, in the province, there have been 13 landslides on river banks, canals, and streams, with a length of 639m, affecting 20 houses in Long Xuyen City and Cho Moi District; 11 thunderstorms and tornadoes have affected 203 houses and many other assets and infrastructure of the State and the People.
