- To complete the plan to plant over 9,000 hectares of forest by 2025, in addition to technical guidance, the authorities focus on managing the quality of forestry seedlings, especially in the context of high prices of forestry seedlings as present.
According to statistics from the Provincial Forest Protection Department, currently, the whole province has 739 organizations and individuals cultivating, producing and trading forestry seedlings (including 6 companies, 9 cooperatives and 724 households and individuals), mainly concentrated in Huu Lung district. On average, each year, these establishments produce and supply the market with about 150 - 200 million seedlings. The nurseries in the area not only meet the demand for afforestation in the province but also export to the provinces: Cao Bang, Bac Kan , Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh...
According to the Provincial Forest Protection Department, from the beginning of 2025 to the end of May 2025, the price of forestry seedlings produced in the province increased compared to the same period in 2024, in which the price of acacia seedlings (acacia cuttings) increased sharply (at times fluctuating from 2,000 - 2,400 VND/tree). Currently, the price of acacia seedlings has decreased (to 1,200 - 1,300 VND/tree) but is still 500 to 800 VND/tree higher than in previous years.
Mr. Hua Van Tam, Deputy Head of the Forest Protection Department of Huu Lung District, said: Seed source is a key factor that determines the quality of forestry seedlings. Therefore, in recent times, the unit has increased inspection of the quality of seed sources that have been recognized according to regulations. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the District Forest Protection Department has coordinated with the district's professional departments and the People's Committees of communes and towns to conduct 18 inspections at 18 facilities with recognized seed sources. Through inspection, the authorities found that some gardens with recognized seed sources were damaged due to prolonged drought, so the certificates of 8 seed sources were revoked.
Not only in Huu Lung district, the work of checking the quality of recognized seed sources has also been actively implemented by the provincial functional agencies and the district and city forest rangers. Since the beginning of 2025, the district and city forest rangers have coordinated to inspect 38 establishments with recognized sources of forestry plant seeds; directing forest rangers to strengthen their grasp of the area, coordinate with district specialized departments, People's Committees of communes and towns to inspect 34 establishments producing and trading forestry plant seeds in the province, an increase of 3 times compared to the same period in 2024. Through inspection, the establishments producing and trading seedlings and the owners of forestry plant seed sources complied with the regulations.
Up to now, the whole province has 31 recognized sources of forestry plant varieties, which are still valid and have guaranteed quality to serve the production of seedlings.
Ms. Doan Huong Giang, Binh Giang village, Lam Ca commune, Dinh Lap district said: Storm No. 3 (September 2024) broke many areas of acacia, so my family started exploiting them from the end of 2024 to replant. However, due to prolonged dry weather, my family only started replanting over 2 hectares of acacia in early May 2025. With the propaganda of forest rangers and commune authorities, my family chose to buy seedlings at long-standing businesses, importing quality seedlings from nurseries that meet export standards.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung, Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: Since the beginning of 2025, the unit has issued documents on strengthening the inspection of recognized forestry seed sources (still in effect) and forestry seed production and trading establishments in the area, thanks to which, the quality of seed sources as well as forestry seedlings in the area is basically guaranteed.
In the coming time, the Department will continue to direct the forest rangers of districts and cities to strengthen propaganda to the people about using seeds with clear origin; propagate so that owners of forestry seed production and trading establishments are clearly aware of their roles and responsibilities in complying with regulations on seed production and trading; organize inspections of recognized sources of forestry seed, promptly detect seed sources that no longer meet standards for consideration and revocation of certification according to regulations.
