The end for Amorim at MU.

What happened at Elland Road was perhaps more than just a simple 1-1 draw; it also signaled the end for Ruben Amorim as Manchester United's head coach.

Amorim's confrontational statements have caused a stir at Old Trafford.

The way the Portuguese manager spoke after the match, so blunt, so aggressive, almost provocative, was nothing short of an open challenge to the Old Trafford hierarchy: either give him full authority or sack him.

Before the away match against Leeds, Amorim hinted at behind-the-scenes issues. But it wasn't until the final whistle that everything truly exploded. In the press conference, Amorim didn't just talk about professional matters. He spoke about power, about his role, about wanting to be seen as a true "manager," not simply a "head coach" constrained within a sporting structure dictated by others.

That was a moment that must have startled CEO Omar Berrada and Director of Football Jason Wilcox. Because in the context of Manchester United's efforts to rebuild a professional and stable image, such "breaking the rules" statements were like adding fuel to a fire that had been smoldering for months.

In terms of results, Amorim has almost no defense to protect himself. After 63 matches in charge, he has only won 24. Last season, MU lost in the Europa League final to a Tottenham team considered one of the worst in almost half a century. In the Premier League, the "Red Devils" finished the season in 15th place, a ranking unacceptable for any manager at Old Trafford. These numbers leave Amorim with little bargaining power.

Amorim anh 1

MU's performance hasn't been good enough for Amorim to secure his place at Old Trafford.

The core issue lies in the power struggle. Amorim openly admitted he had to find common ground with Wilcox on transfer targets. This shows that the lines of authority between the manager and the sporting department have not yet been clearly defined.

The Antoine Semenyo transfer is a prime example. He's a player who could fit into Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation, but switching to a four-defender system would further unbalance the team's structure, something the scouting department clearly isn't keen on.

It's no coincidence that scouting director Christopher Vivell became a name frequently mentioned before and after Amorim's breakout season. Vivell, who is in charge of MU's streamlined scouting network, is reportedly skeptical of the 3-4-2-1 tactical system.

Just before Amorim's shocking statement, an internal report was released, revealing how Fulham had been thoroughly exploiting this tactical scheme since August. The timing was such a coincidence that it raised suspicions that internal disagreements within MU had been simmering beforehand.

The way Amorim ended the press conference at Elland Road showed he had said everything he needed to say. Manchester United's media department quickly shut things up, as if afraid that one more statement could plunge the club into a new media crisis.

Amorim's contract runs until 2027. But in the world of top-level football, contracts are never an impenetrable shield. When a coach openly challenges the power structure, when achievements aren't convincing enough to serve as a foundation, the question of his future is almost certainly answered.

The lesson from Enzo Maresca is still fresh in our minds. The press conference ahead of the upcoming Burnley match could be very different. And no one would be surprised if Amorim isn't sitting in the press conference chair anymore.
