Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Vietnam has made significant progress in 2022. In particular, the Lion Championship arena is considered a big push to spread this sport throughout the country.

The fierce, dramatic and surprising competitions at Lion Championship 2022 have left a strong impression on fans. Also from the Lion Championship arena, many famous domestic boxers have become more widely known to the audience. "Brown Monster" Tran Quang Loc, "Muay Queen" Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc or "undefeated" Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat are the most specific examples.

Vietnam's No. 1 MMA arena returns in 2023.

In 2023, LION Championship organized by Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation and Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Joint Stock Company will return, promising many fierce and eye-catching matches with the participation of many great martial artists. The names that have won the title such as Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat, Tran Quang Loc or Nghiem Van Y are predicted to face a difficult challenge.

Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - President of the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation said that MMA Lion Championship 2023 will organize 8 events in 3 different provinces and cities and start on Saturdays instead of Sundays as before. Specifically, the competition schedule: April 1 in Hanoi , April 22 in Ho Chi Minh City, June 30 in Hanoi, July 8 in Ho Chi Minh City, August 12 in Hanoi, September 9 in Ho Chi Minh City, October 7 in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang and November 18 in Hanoi.

In addition to the A-class fighters who have been ranked in the weight classes taking place in 2022, in 2023 there will be B-class fighters competing to develop the Vietnamese mixed martial arts movement.

Regarding the competition format: The Organizing Committee will schedule the competition for athletes based on the 2022 LION Championship achievement rankings in each weight class announced by VMMAF. Accordingly, each athlete will compete in a maximum of 5 matches in the 2023 season. Athletes will compete from low to high rankings and the Organizing Committee will base on the achievements and level of the athletes to schedule the competition with the current championship belt holder.

In addition to the A-class fighters who have been ranked in the weight classes taking place in 2022, in 2023 there will be B-class fighters competing to develop the Vietnamese mixed martial arts movement as well as find new potential factors to bring up to A-class, as well as have the opportunity to challenge the champions in the weight classes. The competition includes 3 weight classes for women and 6 weight classes for men. Accordingly, the women's weight class is 52 -56 - 60kg, the men's weight class is 56 - 60 - 65 - 70 - 77 - 84kg.

Regarding the number of rounds and competition time: Class A ranking competition: Each match has 3 rounds, each round is 5 minutes. Championship belt competition: Each match has 5 rounds, each round is 5 minutes. Class B: Each match has 3 rounds, each round is 3 minutes. MC Vo Thanh Trung - Chairman of Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Joint Stock Company (VIMMA) - member of the Organizing Committee said: " In addition to the competition format similar to the world's No. 1 mixed martial arts tournament UFC, special events in this year's season will have the participation of top martial artists from countries in the region and the world to exchange and challenge champions or outstanding martial artists of Vietnamese mixed martial arts".
