In an article on The Conversation , Dr. Yossi Rathner, a physiologist at the University of Melbourne (Australia), said that in the summer, instead of bathing in cold water, people should bathe in warm water to help the body cool down safely and effectively.

In the summer, people should take warm baths to help the body cool down safely and effectively.

More specifically, Dr. Rathner explains that our brains are more sensitive to changes in skin temperature than the rest of our body. When we take a cold shower, the blood flow to the skin decreases, causing the skin's surface temperature to drop, making us think that our body has cooled down.

However, this is only a temporary feeling. Taking a cold shower causes less blood to flow through the skin, so the body retains more heat inside, leading to an unwanted increase in temperature.

"A few minutes after a cold shower, we often feel hot. This hot feeling will help increase blood flow to the skin, to increase the process of losing heat from the body," Dr. Rathner said.

The female expert also recommends that the best way to cool down in the summer is to bathe in warm water (water temperature around 33⁰C) instead of cold water (water temperature below 25⁰C). Warm water will help open pores, help the body relax and release heat well.

According to Dr. Rathner, initially, a warm shower will not feel as cool as a cold shower, but after just a few minutes, you will feel more comfortable. This feeling also lasts longer than when you take a cold shower.
