Regarding each village and each household

At the end of January 2026, at Dong Di Dong Pagoda, a drug prevention and control awareness campaign organized by the Phu Ho Commune Police attracted a large number of monks, nuns, Buddhists, and local residents. In a solemn yet intimate setting, real-life stories about the consequences of drug abuse were shared by police officers in simple, easy-to-understand language, closely related to the realities of rural life.

“According to Buddhist teachings, drugs are the cause of human suffering, harming the body, mind, and spirit, destroying family happiness and the peace of society. The temple always encourages Buddhists to live mindfully, stay away from vices, and at the same time work together with the government and the police force in educating and preventing drug abuse starting from each family,” shared Venerable Thich Tam Dao, abbot of Dong Di Dong Temple.

According to information from the Phu Ho Commune Police, the period leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) always poses a potential risk of crime and drug-related problems due to increased social interaction and gatherings. Therefore, bringing propaganda work to the grassroots level, selecting religious sites and village cultural centers, is identified as an effective solution to help the message of drug prevention and control spread naturally and sustainably.

Not stopping at concentrated awareness campaigns, the commune police force continued to coordinate with mass organizations to go "door to door," directly reminding households to increase vigilance and pay attention to managing their children. At the same time, they put up banners and slogans at schools and residential areas, forming a regular "reminder network."

Notably, the "Drug-Free School" model has been implemented uniformly in schools throughout the area. Through thematic discussions and extracurricular activities, students are equipped with knowledge to identify drugs and self-prevention skills.

Mr. Pham Van Giap, Deputy Principal of Phu Xuan Secondary School, shared: "The school recognizes that drug prevention is not only the responsibility of the education sector, but also requires close cooperation with families and the police force. When students are equipped with knowledge and skills from an early age, they will have a strong 'shield' against temptations."

Build a "shield" through concrete actions.

An Cựu Ward is home to many universities and colleges, attracting a large number of students and workers from other localities who come to study, work, and temporarily reside there. With a high population density, significant population fluctuations, and a mix of boarding houses and service businesses, An Cựu always faces the potential for social problems, especially drug-related issues.

The An Cựu Ward Police Department has implemented drug prevention and control measures proactively and flexibly, closely adhering to the specific characteristics of the area. The ward police department has adopted the motto "prevention is key, the people are at the center," diversifying communication methods to ensure that drug prevention and control messages reach every target group.

One effective method is to distribute free keychains printed with the local police station's phone number to residents, students, and workers in residential areas, markets, and busy streets. These small but practical items help people easily contact and promptly provide information when they detect signs related to drugs or violations of the law.

The An Cựu Ward Police collaborated in organizing public service and social work activities for young people at risk of violating the law. Through these activities, they educated them on discipline, community responsibility, and gradually fostered a healthy lifestyle, keeping them away from drugs.

Drug prevention and control awareness campaigns among students have also been identified as a key task. Thematic talks and forums such as "Students Say No to Drugs" are organized in lecture halls, dormitories, and student housing areas. Ms. Phan Dinh Ngoc Chau, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University, stated: "The Youth Union considers drug prevention and control a regular task, implemented right from the lecture halls, linked to educating students on healthy lifestyles and awareness of law compliance."

Through concrete and practical measures at the grassroots level, Hue City now has 30% of its communes and wards meeting the "drug-free" criteria. This is an important foundation for the city to continue implementing comprehensive prevention solutions, aiming to build a safe and healthy living environment, serving socio-economic development and maintaining security and order. Based on this, Hue City aims to increase the number of communes and wards meeting the "drug-free" criteria by at least 15% each year, striving to achieve 100% drug-free status by 2030.

“Building drug-free communes and wards is a long-term, continuous task, not just about achieving standards but maintaining genuine quality. The city police will continue to fight fiercely against drug crimes and replicate effective models from the grassroots level. From there, we will mobilize the strength of the entire political system and the people, gradually building Hue into a safe, drug-free area; especially during peak holiday periods,” emphasized Colonel Ho Xuan Phuong, Deputy Director of Hue City Police.
