With advantages in soil and climate, Son La has the conditions to develop sustainable ecological agriculture and diverse high-value agricultural products. All levels and sectors have implemented many solutions to support the construction of production and product consumption chains, creating convenience for people.
In Chieng Khoong commune, the locality has been promoting propaganda and guiding farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises to invest in developing high-tech agriculture, linking production and consumption of agricultural products in chains. The whole commune currently has over 1,857 hectares of fruit trees, mainly longan, with a yield of 15 tons/ha and an average income of 150 - 300 million VND/ha. The commune maintains 7 effectively operating cooperatives, along with 2 longan processing villages, creating jobs for many local workers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Khoong Commune, said: As a locality with a large area of fruit trees, the problem of finding output for products is always of concern to the local Party Committee and government. The commune directs the professional department to step up guidance for households and cooperatives to strictly and correctly implement the production process according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Promote activities to promote and introduce products on social networking sites. In addition, we promote and mobilize people to process longan products to reduce the pressure on fresh fruit consumption in the market.
Along with that, departments and branches have coordinated to support the development of safe and certified fruit growing and production area codes. The province currently has 8 high-tech crop growing areas; 216 export growing area codes with more than 3,000 hectares; 8 packaging codes for products such as longan, mango, macadamia, passion fruit; 31 types of agricultural products with provincial place names granted protection certificates. There are 201 safe fruit production, processing and trading chains, with a total area of 4,502 hectares, and an output of about 54,207 tons/year.
In 2025, favorable weather conditions will help fruit trees and hawthorn grow well, with an estimated output of 510,000 tons, an increase of 31% compared to 2024. Of which, plums and mangoes will be about 100,000 tons, and longans will be estimated at 155,000 tons. The province plans to export over 35,000 tons to China, the EU and other countries; about 100,000 tons for processing; more than 325,000 tons for consumption through the market system, enterprises, cooperatives and traders.
In addition to linking with a number of small traders, Hoa Muoi Agricultural Service Cooperative, Chieng Khoong Commune, also has many traditional partners placing export orders to the EU. Mr. Luong Van Muoi, Director of the Cooperative, shared: With 45 hectares of longan (35 hectares have been harvested), the output reached more than 400 tons. To date, the Cooperative has received orders to export 100 tons to Germany and France via e-commerce platforms; the rest is consumed domestically and processed into longan. This is the motivation for the Cooperative to continue applying science and technology, enhancing the Song Ma longan brand.
At the Noong Pieu Indigenous Agricultural Products Cooperative, Kim Chung village, Phieng Khoai commune, they are currently maintaining and cooperating to grow over 150 hectares of plums according to VietGAP standards, with an output of 675 tons. Ms. Bui Phuong Thanh, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said: The unit has 30.5 hectares of plums that have been granted a growing area code for export to the EU, New Zealand and the United States. This year, despite high output and reduced prices, the Cooperative has persisted in applying safe production, improving product quality and successfully building the "Ruby Plum" brand. Since the beginning of the season, in addition to domestic consumption, the Cooperative has exported 14 tons of plums to the EU through LMC-BIO Company, with prices 30% higher than the domestic market.
To promote products, Son La province has actively participated in trade events, fairs, and agricultural weeks at home and abroad to promote and consume agricultural products, helping businesses and cooperatives expand their markets. Localities have proactively organized fruit picking festivals, linking agricultural product promotion with eco-tourism development. At the same time, promoting the introduction of products to e-commerce platforms such as Voso, Postmart, Shopee, TikTok Shop and online sales. In addition to fresh fruit consumption, the whole province has 560 factories and agricultural processing facilities (including 17 factories, 543 facilities) and 2,994 longan drying facilities, contributing to reducing consumption pressure.

From the beginning of June, the Company started purchasing mangoes with an output of about 150 tons/day, with a minimum price of 7,000 VND/kg. Ms. Nguyen Hang Nga, Deputy Director of the Center, informed: Doveco continues to cooperate with cooperatives, build a stable production chain and maintain sustainable purchasing prices. In addition, the unit has installed the first fruit paper box packaging line in Vietnam, manufactured by Tetra Pak (Sweden), with a capacity of 6,000 boxes/hour.
Ms. Cam Thi Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: The Department is coordinating with sectors and localities to promote the consumption of agricultural products, promote trade, expand markets for agricultural, forestry, fishery and OCOP products. At the same time, it is strengthening support for enterprises and cooperatives to develop large-scale production, according to the chain, ensuring food quality and safety.
Supporting agricultural product consumption has become a bridge to promote cooperation and expand distribution networks, thereby creating strong links, helping organizations, enterprises, cooperatives, and business households expand their markets and gradually reach out internationally.
