Literature is the first subject in the high school graduation exam with a duration of 120 minutes. With the high school graduation exam, candidates will have to take 2 parts: Social Essay and Literary Essay within 120 minutes. This is the only exam in essay format and the exam is designed to encourage students to develop their creativity and limit sample essays.

The 2024 high school graduation exam will take place from June 27 to 29. In the morning of June 27, candidates will take the essay test in Literature and the afternoon Math test. In the morning of June 28, candidates will take the combined test in Natural Sciences or Social Sciences and in the afternoon, they will take the English test.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that in 2024, the last batch of students will implement the 2006 generaleducation program. In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will innovate in organizing exams to match the requirements and orientations of the 2018 general education program. Therefore, this year, the exam will close the old curriculum, but it will be a premise and good preparation for next year's exam.

On the day of exam procedures for candidates nationwide, the Ministry of Education and Training said that as of 5:15 p.m. on June 26, the total number of candidates registered for the exam was 1,071,393; the total number of candidates who came to complete exam procedures was 1,060,356, accounting for 98.96%; the total number of candidates who did not come to complete exam procedures was 11,037, accounting for 1.04%.
