According to the Department of Home Affairs, the 2.5-hectare reservoir at the Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery is currently in serious disrepair with landslides. This not only affects the overall aesthetics but also poses safety risks, reducing the inherent solemnity of an important spiritual site.
Therefore, the renovation and upgrading of this lake into a water reservoir and park, along with the construction of a solid embankment around the lake, is an extremely urgent requirement. The goal of the investment is to deeply express gratitude to the heroic martyrs, while creating a peaceful and solemn space for visitors.
The project to renovate and upgrade the reservoir with an investment cost of 20 billion VND is part of the project to renovate and upgrade the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery. The Department of Home Affairs has coordinated with the design consultant to develop a plan to renovate and upgrade the reservoir and continue to complete the plan to submit to the Provincial People's Committee for approval before establishing the project investment policy. If approved, the project will start construction before National Day, September 2, 2025.
The plan to renovate and upgrade the reservoir will include sub-items such as building a solid embankment and protective railings around the lake; building landscape works, parks, and water wharves. The entire exposed surface will use green stone, and the steps will be made of monolithic green stone. The entire existing lighting system will be renovated. For the small island area, a solid embankment will be built around it, a protective flower bed railing will be built; a flower garden will be built based on the existing green trees and walkways paved with green stone; a temple will be built; and the entire existing lighting system will be renovated.
For the connecting bridge, the renovation will be based on the existing bridge status, replacing the protective railings and paving the bridge with bluestone. The goal is to ensure the original shape and landscape architecture of the project, without disrupting the harmony of the project with the surrounding landscape.
The lake renovation project is of special significance, not only improving the landscape but also enhancing the cultural and spiritual significance of the cemetery. Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, located in Linh Truong Commune, Gio Linh District, is the resting place of more than 10,000 martyrs who sacrificed their blood for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. With a large scale of 140,000 m2 , this is a sacred symbol of gratitude and respect.
