The whole province has concentratedly planted 326 hectares of medicinal herbs.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in recent years, the area of medicinal plant cultivation in the province has been continuously expanded, forming specialized production areas in localities with suitable climate and soil conditions.

Up to now, the whole province has planted 326 hectares of medicinal herbs concentrated by region, planning associated with consumption and processing linkage. Of which, Cam Lo district has 154.2 hectares, Huong Hoa 84.5 hectares, Vinh Linh 31 hectares, Dakrong 26 hectares, Gio Linh 10 hectares, Hai Lang 10 hectares, Trieu Phong 6.1 hectares; Center for Research, Application and Information of Science and Technology 5 hectares.

The main crops include: Solanum procumbens 35 ha, yield 112 tons/year; Che Vang 26.4 ha, yield 211.2 tons/year; An Xoa 17.7 ha, yield 354 tons/year; Melaleuca 57.1 ha, yield 618 tons/year; Turmeric 89.4 ha, yield 494 tons/year; Galangal 47 ha, yield 705 tons/year; Lemongrass 8.3 ha, yield 54 tons/year.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hong Phuong said that the unit is currently continuing to coordinate with localities to review and complete the planning for the development of medicinal material areas in the province until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Developing medicinal plants suitable for each ecological region, on the basis of effectively using all potentials of natural and social conditions associated with the management, exploitation and sustainable use of cultivated and natural medicinal plant resources, associated with processing facilities and development of OCOP products.

Expanding raw material areas to meet GACP-WHO, GlobalGAP, Organic, Fairtrade standards... At the same time, implementing models of growing medicinal plants under forest canopy in a sustainable manner, taking advantage of ecological advantages, and exploiting natural medicinal resources.
